[3D Printer] Ultimaker S5 Large-Size 3D Printing Model Test - Success Achieved!
Following the unboxing and trial printing of the Ultimaker S5 , to ensure our printing quality, we were the first to test the printing effect on large objects for our customers!
Do you remember the differences between the Ultimaker S5 and Ultimaker 3 ? Besides the addition of a magnetic glass door, the X and Y axes are thicker and more robust; and the newly installed filament flow sensor automatically pauses printing when the filament is insufficient, resuming printing only after replenishment, significantly reducing the risk of errors – how thoughtful! Most importantly, the large print size of 330 x 240 x 300mm combined with the dual printhead system makes printing convenient and hassle-free; let's take a look at our actual testing process!
The material used in this test was PLA , and the test was conducted directly on a large-scale 1 :1 model of a car brake caliper.

The result presented by the pre-press model looks like this. 
After actually putting it into Cura software, the estimated printing time was about four days, and the actual size was 25.5mm x 16.5mm x 78.5mm ; would it be successful with this time and size? Everything was both nerve-wracking and exciting.

After about four days, the S5 's dual-printer system truly lived up to expectations; it could simultaneously print both construction and support materials, producing complete printed products. Furthermore, although the Ultimaker S5 is an open material system, it is still recommended to use original manufacturer materials on the printer, as these materials can be identified through the NFC detection system . Ultimaker cables , when connected to the network, can transmit directly to Ultimaker Cura , achieving a seamless connection between the printer and the software, thus achieving the best 3D printing results.

The printed model was placed in water for two days, and the finished product was produced after the support material was completely dissolved! Not only did the testing process go very smoothly, but the printed product was also complete and beautiful. 
Industrial parts require extensive testing and modifications before mold development, and the 3D printing quality of the Ultimaker S5 offers cost-effective early prototyping, making it the best assistant before CNC module implementation, reducing the risk of failure and unnecessary waste. In our previous article on SLS powder sintering 3D printing , we also saw that the Sinterit Lisa uses a printing method that requires no support structure, and its use of nylon PA12 is more robust and durable than PLA .
Comparing the caliper model printed with PLA material from my last unboxing post next to the 1:1 scale model, it really looks tiny! However, regardless of size, the details printed by the Ultimaker S5 are very complete. The best thing is that now we don't have to worry about printing large-scale models anymore. We can now meet more needs!
