The "New Generation Design Exhibition" is now the largest joint exhibition of design students, showcasing diverse design fields including product and craft, visual communication, multimedia, spatial architecture, and fashion. It serves as a vital platform for discovering outstanding design talent and exceptional creativity in Taiwan. The exhibition attracts approximately 90,000 visitors annually, and this year, 3DMA sponsored students to participate. Let's take a look back at the amazing works of these emerging designers!
First up is the National Taipei University of Technology, where we are based. This year's design works by students from the Department of Industrial Design are full of streamlined shapes, and many of them are related to humanitarian care and child protection issues.
SanDiMa offered the latest Ultimaker S5 3D printer on-site for students to print free gifts. The on-site 3D printing service was a hit with visitors, often crowding the aisle of the counter. The 3D printed cool cards designed by National Taipei University of Technology were small and exquisite, featuring multi-layered structures with cutouts, embossing, and lettering within a mere five centimeters. It was great that the Ultimaker S5 could meet these intricate needs.
United University used Ultimaker 3 , and the 3D printed items designed by students were miniature wrenches, which were given away for free to students on the spot and sold out immediately on the first day of the New Generation Design Exhibition. If you visit the design exhibition in the future, you can buy practical and interesting design products from the students. Our colleagues also couldn't resist buying their uniquely shaped glass jars to support the future up-and-coming talents.
Many cultural and creative products combine handcrafted and wooden designs, emphasizing the perception and interaction between people and products, or incorporating concepts such as storytelling.
There were many groundbreaking achievements in the industrial design category. This quadcopter, which is more than just a display model and is actually movable, not only has a front camera that can rotate 360 degrees like a mechanical arm, but also has such strong kinetic energy that it almost "broke free" from its mounting frame and took off directly in the exhibition area.
The most stunning creations are the futuristic sports cars, jet ski models, and more. The small 3D-printed models in the image pale in comparison. It's clear that these were made using a single-nozzle 3D printer . For areas with more pronounced textures, using a dual-nozzle system with PVA water-soluble support would have resulted in an even more beautiful surface. Many of the customized design samples on display were made using 3D printing , which is different from the previous method of cutting and polishing EK boards and then finding a factory to make them. In addition to reducing the cost of mold making, it can also help save time in manual production, which is very helpful for design students who have limited time and money but have a single customization need.
3D printing is not only used for small-scale prototyping to confirm the shape and function of large-scale works, but even the final product on-site is manufactured using 3D printing before processing and painting. Many schools even have in-house 3D printing studios, allowing students to control the entire process from design to development. The speed of technological development is truly astonishing; it's amazing we weren't born a few years too late!
