Developed exclusively by a British designer and utilizing vacuum forming technology, you can make terrazzo coasters at home in just a few simple steps! Unique craftsmanship, innovative design, and ultra-environmentally friendly – see the complete process here:
Slow design emphasizes the sourcing, use, and manufacturing methods of materials, while also considering environmental sustainability. Designers can choose to use slow design in any field; it focuses on the design method rather than the design goal. Many small businesses are also trying to implement this manufacturing method, which not only protects the planet but also allows for the development of more creative products!

British product designer Katie Gillies is passionate about slow design and is skilled at using Jesmonite (a composite water-based resin) to handcraft a variety of unique products, home furnishings, and installation art pieces.

This time, Katie will use terrazzo and mosaic inlay techniques to design a series of handmade coasters. Notably, this project is a collaboration with Mayku FormBox , incorporating vacuum forming technology.
After designing the initial shape using materials such as wood and clay, place it into the FormBox vacuum forming machine and use it with vacuum forming material sheets . The vacuum forming process takes only three seconds! Once completed, the item can be easily demolded, and the desired mold shape is achieved in seconds.

Next, adjust the amount and color of the solidified terrazzo fragments according to your preference, pour them into Jesmonite resin and stir evenly; finally, pour all the materials into a vacuum-formed mold, let it solidify completely, and then polish it to complete the high-quality homemade coaster! You can also use this as a starting point to design your own containers, trays, potted plants and other home decorations.

Since Katie's studio acquired the Mayku FormBox desktop vacuum forming machine , she has been able to quickly realize all sorts of imaginative ideas for every design project. In addition to saving a lot of development, testing, and production time, using the vacuum forming machine also effectively reduces costs compared to making silicone molds.
