【3D Print News】New Material "PolyCast" Supports Casting
In a previous article, we introduced how to print casting models using an
SLA stereolithography 3D printer
and then perform lost-wax casting at a factory.
This time, "PolyCast" filament has been added as a new item.
PolyCast is a material specifically designed for metal investment casting (lost-wax casting), and when combined with an
alcohol polisher
, it can achieve a smooth surface finish.
Furthermore, it burns completely during the casting process, allowing the internal shape of the mold to be accurately maintained and ensuring casting quality.
Having introduced all of this, you might be wondering what we actually printed, right?
It's a human head!
And as a very familiar subject, it was created by 3D scanning the face of a company staff member.
The production process involved first scanning the face with a scanner to create 3D data, and then using that data to fabricate the head model with a 3D printer.
Next, the printed head model is placed in a
Polysher alcohol polisher
for surface treatment.
The head model seems to be rotating in relaxation.
With alcohol vapor treatment, a smooth surface can be achieved in just a few minutes.
Take a look at the head model finished by alcohol polishing.
It has achieved a smooth and detailed surface quality, as if reborn.
If this machine could be used on real human faces, beauty clinics might go out of business.
The finish is incredibly beautiful!
The final completed brass head model
Now, let's take a look at other cast works.
Completed brass head model.
You can see that all the works have a very smooth surface finish.
Three gold-colored head models are lined up.
It might be interesting to display the CEO's head model as an interior decoration (laughs).
By simply using PolyCast filament, it becomes possible to quickly manufacture small batches of metal parts.
Without the need for expensive mold production investment, 3D printing manufacturing methods can reduce costs and time by more than 10 times compared to traditional methods.
3D printing technology is an innovative manufacturing method that can be utilized not only for prototypes but also for the production of actual cast parts.
