【3D Print News】Tucci Hot Rods: Creating Ultimate Custom Car Parts with 3D Printing

Tucci Hot Rods utilizes 3D printing technology to produce custom automotive parts for vehicle modification projects.
3D printed parts are completed within hours and, with simple post-processing, are actually used as final product parts for custom cars.

Tucci Hot Rods is a family-owned custom car building shop established in 1997, known for its bold and innovative modification projects.
Dom Tucci, a designer at Tucci Hot Rods, utilized an Ultimaker 2 Extended + to create a custom model of a Ford Fiesta ST.
This vehicle made its debut at the SEMA Show held in Las Vegas in 2016.

Dom explained that he printed approximately 30 to 40 different parts using the Ultimaker.
These ranged from rough early-stage models to actual end-use parts installed in the vehicle.

Dom stated:


"When you think of 3D printing, you might first think of it as a tool for prototyping. But for us, 3D printing is the final product manufacturing process itself."


Introduction of 3D Printing Technology

For Dom, adopting the Ultimaker was incredibly straightforward.
"I took it out of the box, set it on the table, did a test print, and then started printing car parts."

Without 3D printing technology, part production would have required outsourcing CNC machining to external factories.
However, external processing often involves long lead times and scheduling adjustments, significantly impacting development speed.

Now, with Ultimaker integrated in-house, they can produce end-use parts within hours, free from the constraints of third-party supplier lead times, and at their own convenience.

According to Dom, the introduction of Ultimaker enabled Tucci Hot Rods to triple production speed and reduce costs by a factor of ten.

While automotive modification projects typically take 6 months to a year, Tucci Hot Rods completed the Fiesta project in just two months.

Future Projects

Through the Fiesta project, the Ultimaker has become an indispensable tool within the Tucci Hot Rods shop.
