Updating the Ultimaker 3D printer firmware to version 5.2 not only allows you to enjoy the cloud features of Ultimaker Cloud, but also integrates with Cura 4.0 slicing software to improve many 3D printing performance features.
We previously introduced the remote printing feature in Cura 4.0 . Note that this applies to the Ultimaker 3 or Ultimaker S5 3D printer , and each Ultimaker account can connect to one 3D printer.
The new firmware improves the efficiency of active calibration on the Ultimaker S5 . Instead of detecting the entire print platform, it assesses the printable area of the object before printing begins and skips unused nozzles to speed up the process and increase the success rate of 3D printing . To use this feature, you need to prepare your printouts using Ultimaker Cura 4.0 or later.
The new versions of Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker S5 3D printers include a new level sensor diagnostic function that can detect whether the capacitive sensor in the printhead is in optimal condition and indicate whether maintenance is required: (a) the sensor is working properly (b) signal interference is detected (c) the sensor requires maintenance.
More user experience details include: material breakage detection settings are now embedded in the UFP file, making Ultimaker S5 's material breakage detection more accurate; reduced noise during platen descent after printing; the ability to completely turn off the Ultimaker S5 's internal lights; and improved heating platform temperature for TPU filaments during XY axis calibration for enhanced stability. Updating software and firmware is crucial for the proper functioning of 3D printers . In case of sudden errors, please ensure your software and firmware are up-to-date and it is recommended that you set your settings to automatic updates.
*Please note: The new firmware update 5.2 is for Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker S5 3D printers . If you are using a 3D printer of a model below this version, we still recommend that you enable automatic updates to obtain the latest firmware for that model .
