Now, let me introduce this articulated dinosaur that requires no support materials, and also help you familiarize yourself with the new Cura 4.0 interface. How is this movable structure made? Why doesn't it need support? If we put it into Cura 4.0 , we can see the layered slicing of the object and the 3D printing process; we can see that the movable structure uses crossbars passing through holes to interlock, and the suspended parts, because of the gradual angle, small drop, and small object size, don't have any PLA sagging issues. The design utilizes a chain-like concept, plus sufficient pre-reserved gaps in the middle, allowing the 3D printed object to move even without PVA support.
We selected Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex and used PLA single-material 3D printing in a dual-nozzle system. They looked very miniature in the huge Ultimaker S5 . Printing a single dinosaur took about two hours.
You can play right out of the box. The two dinosaurs look simple and cute, but their designs are full of clever details, such as using eyebrows to make expressions or the scales on the back of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Ultimaker 's precision allows us to present these details to you.
If you want it as a keychain, you can cut a hole in the end yourself, or there are many cute versions online with hats, bows, etc. Choose one you like as your Children's Day gift!
Although this 3D printed model has a movable structure, it remains very stable when standing. A clever little triangle on the bottom makes the 3D printed product even more stable. If the 3D printed object is not printed bottom-side down, an inner rounded corner or groove can be designed at the bottom; this can prevent unevenness of the standing contact surface from affecting the balance and make the object more stable in any place, just like the groove under a wine bottle.
