3D printing time reduced by 20%! The latest 5.0 beta version of Ultimaker Cura features a more powerful and practical system engine. The printhead automatically adjusts the extrusion filament width to accommodate various model shapes and detail filling requirements, representing a significant breakthrough in 3D printing technology ! A link is provided at the end of the article for a free trial:
In previous versions of Ultimaker Cura, the system used a consistent line width (the exact width depended on the nozzle diameter and the line width setting used). When slicing a file, if the 3D printed portion had two and a half lines of thickness, Ultimaker Cura would automatically generate two lines with a small gap between them. These very small detail gaps, being smaller than a line thickness, caused difficulties in printing and filling, ultimately leaving a small and noticeable gap between the two lines. The system would then generate diagonal lines to fill this gap, as shown in the image.
When filling small gaps, the 3D printing printhead will produce a small shaking motion, which will cause a lot of unnecessary vibration and noise.
Automatically adjusts wire width
The updated Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta can dynamically adjust line width during 3D printing , resulting in less gap between lines, faster and more precise printhead paths, and more stable, higher-quality part samples when printing thin walls or complex details in 3D .
In the Cura slicer preview mode, you can see that compared to Ultimaker Cura 4.13 (left image), Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta automatically adjusts line widths, improving different slicing effects:

The ship model in the image below was sliced using a 0.1mm layer height and an AA 0.25mm nozzle. The gray areas on the ship represent details too small to be sliced further. As shown, a 20% scale boat can be sliced smoothly, but once the scale is reduced, certain parts of the model cannot be 3D printed .
Using Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta, the line width can be automatically adjusted, and even when reduced to 15% and 10%, all paths can be sliced and 3D printing jobs can be executed smoothly.
