2. Plug the other end of the power cord into the wall socket.
Select Printing Platform
To perform the setup steps, turn on the printer using the power switch on the back. Follow the steps on the touchscreen; the following steps are described on the next page of the user manual.
✔Tip: You can change the language on your printer at any time by navigating to Preferences > Settings > Language.
Upon first use after confirming that the glass plate has been installed, it is recommended to use the materials provided with the printer for printing: Tough PLA and PVA. This combination of materials must be printed on the glass platform.
In this step, you must ensure that the glass printing platform is installed.
A thin layer of glue should be applied to the glass printing platform to ensure reliable adhesion.
III. Installing the Print Core
Print nozzle
The Ultimaker S5 allows the use of two interchangeable print nozzles in the printhead.
There are two types of print nozzles:
Type AA: Used for printing construction materials and Ultimaker separation materials.
BB type: Used for printing water-soluble support materials.
Each Ultimaker S5 comes with two print nozzles AA 0.4 (one of which is already installed in print head slot 1) and one print nozzle BB 0.4. This means that it can be used to print two types of building materials or to print building materials and support materials.
Print nozzles contain information on tiny chips so that the printer always knows which print nozzles are installed and what materials are available for those nozzles.
Install a second printing nozzle
During setup, a second print nozzle must be installed. To do this, navigate to Print Nozzle 2 and select Start. Follow the steps on your Ultimaker S5:
1. Carefully open the glass door and the print nozzle fan holder, then press OK.
2. By squeezing the lever of the print nozzle and sliding it into the print head until you hear a click, install the second print nozzle (BB 0.4) into the print head slot 2.
3. Carefully close the printhead fan holder and press OK to continue the welcome setup process.
⚠Please note: Do not touch the contact points on the back of the print nozzle with your fingers.
✔Helpful tip: Make sure the print nozzles are installed completely vertically so they can slide smoothly into the print head.

IV. Loading Materials
Before you begin printing on the Ultimaker S5, you need to load your materials into the printer. For first-time use, it is recommended to use the printer included with the Ultimaker S5.

1. Place the reel of material 2 (PVA) onto the reel holder and select Confirm. Ensure the end of the material is in a clockwise direction so that the material enters the feeder 2 from the bottom.
2. Wait until the Ultimaker S5 detects the material and then press confirm.
3. Insert the end of the material into feeder 2 and push it in gently until the feeder clamps and it can be seen in the far end of the feed tube.
4. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat the printing nozzle 2 and load the material into the printing head.
5. After the material is extruded from nozzle 2, please confirm again.
6. Wait for the print nozzle 2 to cool down.
✔Friendly reminder: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Helpful tip: You can straighten the end of the material slightly to make it easier to enter the feeder.

Loading Material 1
Before placing Material 1 on the spool holder, it should first be placed on the material guide to prevent the two materials from getting tangled during printing. Select Material 1 from the list on the touchscreen, select Start, and then follow the steps below.
1. Pick up the material and turn it outwards.
2. Place the material spool of Material 1 (Tough PLA) and the material on the wire rack in a counterclockwise direction, and pass the material guide through the hole in the spool.
3. Place the spool of material 1 on the reel rack behind material 2, and then confirm.
4. Once Ultimaker S5 detects the material, select "Confirm".
5. Insert the end of the material into feeder 1 and push it in gently until the feeder clamps and it can be seen in the far end of the feed tube.
6. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat the printing nozzle 1 and load the material into the printing head.
7. Confirm that new material is being extruded from print nozzle 1.
8. Wait for print nozzle 1 to cool down.
✔Friendly reminder: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Helpful tip: You can straighten the end of the material slightly to make it easier to enter the feeder.

5. Install WIFI and firmware
Set up WIFI
The Ultimaker S5 can print wirelessly using Wi-Fi or the internet.
To connect your Ultimaker S5 to a wireless network, you will need a computer or smartphone. Begin Wi-Fi setup and follow the steps on the touchscreen.
1. Wait until your Ultimaker S5 creates a Wi-Fi hotspot. This may take up to a minute.
2. Connect to the printer using a computer or mobile phone. The name of the Wi-Fi network will be displayed on the Ultimaker S5's touchscreen.
3. A pop-up window will appear on your computer or smartphone screen. Follow the steps to connect your Ultimaker S5 to your local Wi-Fi network. After completing these steps,
The pop-up message will then disappear.
4. Return to the Ultimaker S5 and wait for the Wi-Fi setup to complete.
✔Friendly reminder: If the pop-up window does not appear, please open your browser and go to a website that your browser does not yet recognize.
✔Friendly reminder: In some environments, the Ultimaker S5 may be unable to connect to Wi-Fi.
If this happens, try using another computer or phone to re-establish the Wi-Fi settings.
✔Helpful reminder: If you skip this step, you can go to Preferences > Network > Turn on Wi-Fi to reset it.
After completing the network connection setup, you can configure the wired network connection by following these steps.
Connect one end of the network cable to the network cable socket on the back of the Ultimaker S5.
Connect the other end of the wire to the network source (router or modem).
Navigate to Preferences > Network and turn on the network.
Update firmware
The final step is for Ultimaker S5 to check if the latest firmware is installed. If it's an older version, it will automatically download and install the latest firmware.
This step may take a few minutes.
✔Friendly reminder: If the printer is connected to the network and detects an older firmware version, it will only prompt you to install the latest firmware.
