[3D Printing News] Cura 4.2 Beta Released: Try it now, completely free!

Ultimaker has released the new Ultimaker Cura 4.2 beta version, which is now available for download! Here are the new features and user experience that Cura 4.2 will offer:

Front view

As a professional user, you need more control over the 3D view type when preparing for printing. Cura 4.2 introduces the front view function – the same view type used in professional CAD software, so you can easily compare the dimensions of the model with the CAD design. This option can be found in "View > Camera View > Front View" (the actual name and location will be based on the official Cura 4.2 release).

(Front view is commonly used in CAD design. To facilitate the habits of general modeling and drawing users, it has now been added to Cura 4.2.)
Project List

To facilitate the identification of corresponding file names and models, a new pop-up list is provided in the main interface. Clicking on a model in the preview workspace will select the file name; conversely, directly clicking on the name will also select the model file. To accommodate individual user preferences, this window will remain in its last used state.

(The new item list makes it easier to identify different items in the preview window.)

Fine-tuning distance

During retraction and long-duration movements, some cable characteristics may "overflow" more. The new Cura 4.2 will add a new fine-tuning setting to the restart distance to maintain a precise extrusion width when reprinting, resulting in more perfect objects.

Specific traffic

By adjusting the filament flow rate in specific functions (such as wall thickness, filling, support, feed tower, and attachment, etc.), better control can be achieved over 3D printing models.

Slice button delay

After selecting the slice button, some processing time is required. During this time, other functions may not show the adjustment effect. Therefore, the new version will add a "Processing" screen to more clearly inform users to wait for the slice calculation.

(After selecting the slice operation, it will display "Processing". Adjustments made during this period may not be reflected in the results.)
