Introducing Cura 2.6
We've received a lot of useful feedback from our beta testers for Cura 2.6. Thank you to everyone who helped us test the new Cura and shared their thoughts.
Based on your feedback, we're releasing the full version of Cura 2.6 with a wide range of functions and features. It's designed to provide the best 3D printing experience.
Here are the main improvements:
●Local Version Folders: Cura 2.6 now uses local version folders, so installing a new version won't overwrite profiles or settings from older versions. Instead, a new local folder will be created. If you're currently using an older version of Cura, your settings files will remain intact.
●Support Contours for Better Adhesion: New support settings have been added, allowing you to create support profiles that improve the adhesion of PVA and PLA. Support interface settings (density, speed, etc.) are now separated into support roof and support floor.
●Automatic Model Arrangement: The new Cura makes it easy to arrange multiple models (or copies of the same model). If print space is limited or models are outside the build plate, simply select "Arrange all models" from the settings menu on the right. You can also auto-arrange with Command + R on MacOS, and Ctrl + R on Windows and Linux.
●Support Mesh: You can now load another model as a support structure.
●Gradual Infill: By concentrating infill near the top of the model, you can save material and printing time when printing the bottom parts. This is available by simply enabling gradual infill in recommended mode. It's especially effective for flexible materials.
●Mold Printing: You can now print a mold of the 3D model itself, allowing you to pour in your chosen material and form it.
●Small Overhang Towers: Cura 2.6 includes new support options, allowing you to create towers to support small overhangs. This further improves print quality.
●Cut Mesh: Apply a pattern to the second nozzle to convert any model into a dual extrusion print. Overlapping parts inside the model will be printed with the extruder selected for the pattern.
●Multi-Extrusion Support (Third-Party FDM Printers): Cura 2.6 now supports multi-extrusion for custom-configured third-party printers and modified Ultimaker printers.
UI Features
●Per-Model Extruder Settings: When selecting a specific extruder, the new Cura makes it easy to specify it from the settings menu or the extruder button. The material color for each extruder is also displayed, further enhancing usability.
●Custom Mode Switching: Cura 2.6 allows you to switch between recommended and custom modes with a simpler, more user-friendly interface.
●Plugin Installer: Installing plugins used to be a bit complex, but a new plugin installer button has been added, making it easy to select and install them.
●Basic Settings Options: Saving and loading files is now even easier, as Cura automatically identifies models, projects, or G-code.
●Theme Selector: If you're using a custom Cura theme, you can easily apply it from the settings screen.
●Material Compatibility Information: Materials now have an information icon, which, when clicked, directs you to a webpage with compatibility information for each material.
●Print Time Prediction by Feature: Hover over the estimated print time (bottom right) to see a breakdown of time for each feature, such as walls and infill.
●New Ultimaker 3 Profile Names: For Ultimaker 3 users, profile names have been updated to be more intuitive.
●Invert Camera Zoom: The mouse wheel direction can now be inverted, improving usability.
●Olsson Block Support: Ultimaker 2 users can now configure whether an Olsson Block is installed.
●OctoPrint Plugin: Cura 2.6 allows you to send print data directly to OctoPrint.
