[3D Printing Applications] Six Types of Threads Unite! Composite Material Boxing Gun!

SanDima is happy to test various materials and 3D printing for everyone. Regular sample cards are too monotonous and don't demonstrate features like toughness and strength, so we created a composite material boxing gun! Many of you probably saw this toy as children. Don't let its small size fool you; this boxing gun combines six different materials! Each material has its own suitable function. Additionally, we've included a hollow viewing window in the structural design, allowing everyone to clearly see how the boxing gun works in an interesting way:



The main telescopic grate is made of Tough PLA , which is similar in strength to ABS and not easily brittle, making it suitable for functional parts. The combined grip is made of nylon and ABS . In addition to its strength, nylon is more elastic and tough, thus sufficient to withstand the force of the fulcrum. The grip sleeve is made of TPU with elasticity, which can better adapt to shape changes. The green retainer pin is made of CPE , which has the characteristics of temperature resistance, mechanical strength, and suitability for use in objects and mechanical parts. Since the fist is most often subjected to external impact, high-strength PC is selected for 3D printing .



This project primarily used Ultimaker 's original cables. While different materials typically require consideration of varying shrinkage rates, the precise dimensions printed by Ultimaker and the preset parameters in the slicing software Cura ensured excellent fit between the parts. Of course, the benefits of Ultimaker's dual-nozzle system also played a crucial role, allowing us to effectively utilize the water-soluble PVA support material, achieving accurate dimensions and a beautiful surface simply by submerging it in water.



These are the seven parts after 3D printing . Now assemble them according to the diagram:





First, place the rubber band, green retaining pin, and telescopic grid into the latch of the handle. Then, place the rubber band and retaining pin on the other side, which are completely symmetrical.



Cover the black ABS gun grip with the lid, make sure each latch is properly engaged, and finally slip your fist and holster on to finish!
