[3D Scanning] Can even scan motorcycle shells?! A lifesaver for lazy drafters!
Do you remember in a previous article we gave you a basic overview of how a 3D scanner works, and how we tested scanning small objects and human portraits?
If you can't figure it out, that's okay, let's go back and review the article together!
This time, we'll demonstrate how to use a 3D scanner to scan large objects. We'll also be using Shining 3D 's EinScan 3D scanner .
Using a motorcycle front steering wheel shell obtained from a nearby motorcycle shop, shaped like a cool mask, it's also a great object for 3D scanning!
Let's take a look at the motorcycle body we're going to scan! It's a very eye-catching and stylish royal blue color~
The first step is to spray powder onto the object. Just like a woman needs to apply makeup (powder) to be noticed before going out, spraying powder makes the scanning process smoother.
This helps the scanner to quickly grasp the shape of an object. (Note: Not all objects need to be powder-coated. Objects that are reflective or black are more likely to need powder coating; other objects can be scanned first and then judged.)
Point the scanner at the front of the vehicle body. You can use a tripod to raise the scanner to make the scanning process easier. Remember to adjust the angle of the vehicle body to ensure a more complete scan of the documents.
As you can see, the scanner's automatic correction technology is excellent. In less than a minute, it can almost completely present the cool and streamlined shape of the motorcycle shell from the front.
After scanning the front of the car body, move on to the back and continue, which also requires powder coating first.
The later parts have more details, so they require more scanning time than the earlier parts, but the details are rendered very meticulously.
After scanning, you still need to make some detailed adjustments in 3D software to achieve better quality when printing later.
Finally, the 3D scan file was fine-tuned by the engineers.

We will be releasing more articles about miniature motorcycle shells printed using this scanned 3D file. We will also be releasing more articles about scanning, so please stay tuned for our latest news. Special thanks to SYM Motorcycle Shop near Sandima for their generous sponsorship of the cool royal blue steering wheel motorcycle shell. Please look forward to the birth of our 3D printed motorcycle shells!
