Mayku has launched brand new accessories – reducing plates and Multiplier Firmware 2.0 – expanding the possibilities of Multipliers! What is a Multiplier? What are the benefits of these new features? How does it actually work? This article answers all your questions and lets you get started easily!
The Multiplier is a benchtop compression molding machine that achieves sub-micron resolution on sheets up to 5 mm thick. Combined with high-resolution 3D printing, it can produce high-quality parts similar to injection molds in minutes.

Mayku now offers Multiplier Firmware 2.0 , which includes a customization mode that gives you complete control over machine settings and allows you to create, save, and edit material profiles for future use. Use Mayku materials, third-party materials, or any other materials you want to experiment with ! Unlock the application of all factory-grade thermoforming materials without limits!
Mayku also released a brand new accessory: a reduction plate . The new reduction plate integrates perfectly with the Mayku Multiplier, compressing the Multiplier's forming area into A4 or US letter format, thereby gaining access to hundreds of sheet metal suppliers worldwide and reducing waste.
These new versions collectively unlock hundreds of thermoforming materials that can be used with Multiplier, and combined with high-resolution 3D printing , you can get injection mold quality parts from your desktop in minutes.
Customization Mode: Perfectly tune the machine to access hundreds of materials.
Using the custom mode, the Multiplier can learn any new type of thermoformed sheet in minutes , with intelligent learning and a large storage capacity! Hundreds of profiles can be saved directly to the machine for future use, making it easy to use materials from any supplier. You can also edit saved profiles after they have been created.
Custom mode allows you to create, save, and edit custom molding profiles for any compatible thermoforming material. This ensures consistently high-quality results when using materials ranging from 0.1 to 5 mm ( and larger sheets if using a reducing plate), allowing for precise control of temperature and pressure to fine-tune the details for the desired effect!

With these new features, engineers, designers, and educators can test, validate, and save settings required for a variety of thermoforming materials.
What are the actual steps to operate the custom mode? The following will guide you step by step, so you don't need to look it up elsewhere!
Thermoforming using custom modes
Please follow these steps to fully realize the potential of custom modes for your thermoforming project.
1. Select a slide.
First, choose a material sheet for your project . You can use full-size sheets of material cut to a diameter of 428 mm. Alternatively, if you have reduced-diameter sheets , you can use A4 or US Letter size sheets, which allows for more efficient use of material to create smaller shapes. You can find the material's melting temperature by contacting your supplier, searching online, or contacting us .
2. Create a custom configuration file
Once the melting temperature is reached, you can start using it!
• Navigate to the materials list
• Select "Add Material" (located at the top)
• Enter the material type, temperature, and pressure*
Different materials have unique molding temperatures and pressures. Generally, thicker sheets require higher pressures to form effectively. For example, 1 mm HIPS sheet may be optimal at 160 °C and 45 PSI, but 3 mm HIPS sheet may require 160 °C and 60 PSI. It is best to experiment with these settings based on your specific application.
You can choose to adjust the following:
Molding time: The duration of pressure applied to the sheet material.
Cooling time: The duration of time the sheet material cools after pressure release.
Heater pressure: Indicates when the heater starts. You can modify this setting for materials that heat up quickly to minimize waiting time.
3. Calibration plate
The Multiplier includes a built-in sheet leveling mechanism. This system allows the Multiplier to keep the sheet perfectly level while heating.
During this calibration phase, press the up and down arrows on the machine to ensure the sheet material remains as level as possible. Proper calibration is crucial to prevent issues such as uneven shape or problems when shutting down the machine.
4. Preserve the outline of the board material.
After calibration, you can save the board configuration file. You can use the generated name or specify a custom name for easier reference in the future.
Using reducing plates opens up a new world of materials and reduces waste.
Through seamless integration with the Mayku Multiplier , reduction sheet effectively shrinks the forming area to A4 or US letter format. This reduction provides access to numerous global suppliers specializing in straight-cut sheet, making it easier to procure specific or specialized sheet materials.
Furthermore, when molding smaller parts, the reducing plate minimizes material waste and ensures precise material usage. Because it uses less material, it also reduces the likelihood of curling on the final part.
Using reducing plates, you can also begin molding thicker materials (over 5 mm thick), allowing you to create rock-solid, intricately detailed parts from a variety of different materials.
At the other end, the reducing plate can use extremely thin materials down to 100 micrometers to enable ultra-thin film applications !

If you want to reduce curling on thermoformed parts, a reducing plate is a useful accessory. Compared to standard-sized multiplier sheets, it allows for the use of higher tools and can form thicker materials up to 8 mm thick.
So how do you use this new accessory - the reducing plate? Here are its actual operating instructions!
Using Mayku Multiplier reducing plate

Prepare
• Cut your reduced diameter plate material to the correct size (A4 or US letter).
• Make sure you have heat-resistant gloves on hand (included).
• Alternatively, prepare a white chalk.
Place the reducing plate into the multiplier , ensuring that the long side of the reducing plate is aligned with the leading edge of the multiplier .
Using white chalk, outline the open area of the reducing plate on the bed of the multiplier . This will serve as a template placement guide.
• Loosen the screws: Turn all four screws counterclockwise to loosen them ; there is no need to completely unscrew them.
• Remove the top tray: Pull the handle to slide the top tray outwards. If it doesn't move smoothly, loosen the screws slightly. Now set the top tray aside.
• Positioning the sheet material: Select the desired sheet material and remove all protective layers. Place the sheet material on the reduction plate, ensuring it is centered.
• Secure the paper: Place the top tray back over the paper and slide it back to its original position. Tighten all four screws, ensuring they apply roughly equal pressure. Check for any noticeable gaps at the visible edges.
• Insert the reducing plate: Place the entire reducing plate assembly into the multiplier. Carefully check that the long side of the reducing plate is aligned with the front edge of the multiplier .
• Run the Multiplier: Operate the machine as usual. Although the standard Mayku profile can be used, it is recommended to use the new custom mode feature to set a custom profile for best results.
• Post-forming process: After the forming cycle is complete, wear heat-resistant gloves; the reducing plate will be very hot. Carefully remove the reducing plate from the multiplier .
Note: If it sticks to the Multiplier 's seal, gently loosen it with a screwdriver while supporting the bottom to prevent it from falling off.
Loosen all four screws, slide the top tray out, and then remove the molded item from the reducing plate. Your molded part is now ready!
