How to choose a 3D printing solution ? Just follow the chart! With the rapid development of 3D printing , there are numerous technologies and models available, making it difficult to understand after consulting with various experts. Even without a complete understanding of the differences between 3D printing technologies, as long as you know the general options and understand the purpose or appearance requirements of your own object, you can roughly determine your needs and quickly choose the appropriate application category. The most common 3D printing technologies on the market can be divided into: Thermal Fusion Printing (FFF/FDM) , Photopolymerization (SLA/LCD/DLP) , and Sintered Powder (SLS) .

II. Technology isn't perfect in every way; which need is most important?

Secondly, each 3D printing method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Different production methods have their own limitations and strengths, and cannot meet all needs at the same time. Relatively speaking, FDM and SLS are strong but slower and have specific surface textures. Photopolymerization is fast but the material is harder and more brittle and is easily affected by light. SLS is suitable for making complex mechanical parts but is more expensive. FDM molding is cheaper, etc.


Once you understand the intended use of the final product and identify the priority criteria, you can start selecting from the corresponding arrows. This method can be used for metal castings that require further processing. Considerations may include: smooth appearance, reusable assembly, outdoor use, limited dimensions, etc.

(If appearance is the priority, start filtering from the green entrance; if functionality is emphasized, choose the red entrance; and most generally, start categorizing by manufacturing dimensions, beginning with the blue entrance.)
