This time, we're sharing a vacuum-formed item: "water coasters." At the booth, you can even choose your own name and favorite design. Besides comparing the FormBox and Vaquform DT2 vacuum forming machines, we also have the industrial-grade Ultimaker S3 and the affordable Prusa 3D printer on display! So how are these water coasters made? A sneak peek before the show:
First, we prepare several discs of different heights, open-source cartoon patterns, and English letters, and put them all into the Ultimaker Cura 4.4 slicing software; then we use the Ultimaker 3D printer to print them out, and the module before vacuum forming is complete!
These printed 3D patterns will be used as materials for vacuum forming. If you don't have a 3D printer , don't worry. You can use clay, cardboard, CNC -cut wood chips, etc. to make objects that need to be shaped. These objects can be placed on the vacuum forming machine . FormBox can be connected to any household vacuum cleaner as a vacuum machine, which is very convenient for ordinary households or makers.
Place the printed round frame on the FormBox vacuum forming machine and put the desired pattern inside the center. We first chose a Totoro. You can also arrange your own English name or small patterns around the round frame to create a personalized cartoon water coaster.
Next, wait for the material sheet inside the FormBox to heat up to the specified temperature, then quickly press down to vacuum shape it, and your custom-shaped coaster will be born! In addition to the very quick and simple steps, there will also be enthusiastic staff on site to assist and guide you, so you don't have to worry at all.
Next up is the Vaquform DT2 for molding. We chose Winnie the Pooh to make one. Here's a close-up of the original coaster for your reference. These two vacuum equipment, along with a 3D printer and other exciting exhibits, will also be on display at the "Made in Taikang Maker Festival".
The image below shows the differences between the Vaquform DT2 and FormBox vacuum forming machines. Because the Vaquform DT2 has a built -in vacuum, it has a stronger vacuum forming effect and more obvious details. The FormBox , on the other hand, can be connected to any vacuum cleaner, and the molding effect in the recessed areas is gentler but more uniform.
Both vacuum forming machines have their own characteristics. In terms of price and strength, the Vaquform DT2 is more suitable for industrial applications, small-batch production, and packaging development; while the FormBox is very suitable for craft classrooms, food molds, teaching courses, etc.
Once you've painted each coaster individually, you're all done! In addition to the pure white finished product, acrylic paint will also be provided on-site for everyone to paint their own colors. It's water-insoluble after drying, so you can use it with confidence. Of course, you can also take it home for free. Everyone, young and old, is welcome to come and experience the fun and practical vacuum forming machine .
