Although the New Generation Design Exhibition was changed to an online exhibition at the beginning of this year due to the impact of the pandemic, design students in Taiwan still worked very hard. After the good news of zero new confirmed cases, the Department of Industrial Design at National Taipei University of Technology still opened the exhibition on campus! This year, among the works of 12,000 students across Taiwan, the Department of Industrial Design at Taipei University of Technology had 19 works shortlisted and won 23 awards. The booming food delivery industry, with services like Uber Eats and Foodpanda, has also led to an increase in accidents involving delivery motorcycles. Therefore, a safety device has been designed that combines convenience with rider safety. This device projects phone information onto the helmet's visor, eliminating the need for riders to look down at their phones. In the event of an accident, an airbag vest with built-in sensors automatically inflates to protect vulnerable areas such as the cervical spine and chest. A transparent chest pocket holds the phone and automatically displays an electronic business card for customers to identify when picking up their food.
Drowning is the third leading cause of death worldwide, and children in impoverished areas have very limited resources available when learning to swim. SAVIOUR is a swimming device that makes good use of discarded plastic bottles. After using 3D printing to create modules, locally discarded plastic bottles can be freely combined into different forms such as floats and swimming rings. It can not only be used for various swimming lessons, but also effectively recycles waste. This work has even entered the final round of the "Golden Pin Design Award for Outstanding Young Residents".
