Following its water-soluble PVA cables, Ultimaker has launched a new support cable, Breakaway . What are its features and uses?
Today we're going to show you the benefits of using a separate cable for printing!
First, we used our dual-printer Ultimaker3 printer to print. This time, we selected a model file of a drill (half of it). The lower part is paired with our separate support material. Remember to open the turret when printing with dual printers!

Here we will set the layer thickness to 0.2mm and the fill rate to 15%, and the printing time will be approximately 19 hours.
Once the printing is complete, you can start disassembling the supports!

For many, dismantling supports is a nightmare, often requiring a lot of time to pull and tug with tools. Moreover, it's not possible to remove the whole piece at once; usually, each piece has to be removed separately. Now, using Breakaway as the support makes everything much easier!

The disassembly process is the same: prepare a pair of needle-nose pliers, clamp the support material and pull it apart from the main body. Most of the support material will be separated into one piece, and even the recessed parts will be pulled up and removed. Only a very small part of the support will remain to be removed, and the surface of the removed part will be very smooth.
Compared to PVA water-soluble support materials , it eliminates the need for lengthy soaking time, saving time. It also eliminates the need for dismantling and polishing compared to using ordinary wires for support.
