[3D Printing Application] Real guns and bullets can be fired, 3D printed crossbow!


Adult toys are here! A 3D-printed crossbow has been put to the test! This ultra-mini crossbow can not only be fitted with arrows but also fire them—it has all the real functions, including target practice! Click the link below to download and challenge your friends to a competition! This crossbow uses the rebound force of the PLA itself to drive the elastic string for firing. Let's see how it performs:


First, we put the files into the Ultimaker 3D printer . All parts were printed after 6 hours. Since the crossbow has many locking parts, it is recommended to choose the highest precision for 3D printing , which will make assembly easier.



We used the dual-head system of the Ultimaker 3 to print different color combinations, and also some single-color PLA styles. You can refer to our pictures to choose your preferred combination. After all the parts are completed, pay attention to the numbers in the pictures and follow our steps to assemble the crossbow!


First, place (2) into (1) and fit (4) into (3); then insert the body of 1, making (4) a movable slider, which is the component used for loading. Next, component (1) has many small holes for assembly, and cut paperclips or polystyrene glue can be inserted inside for fixing.


Next, install (5) and (6) on the left and right sides of the main body respectively, and then insert (7) fixing device at the back. The whole prototype is out. The trigger at the back is the launch controller!


After the internal structure is completed, the external assembly is relatively simple. Install (8) on the top, (9) is the fixing device at the front of the main body and both ends of the bow and arrow, and (10) insert the tenons on the left and right sides as shown in the figure to complete the main body!


Everything is ready except for the elastic cord. We recommend using a slightly thick elastic cord with a round shape. There are small holes at the ends of the bows on both sides. Pass the cord through one of the holes, wrap it around and tie a knot, then pass it through the center slider and wrap it around to the other side and tie a knot. That's it!


The finished crossbow looks incredibly cool just to display, and everyone's having a blast playing with it. You can print targets in various colors for competitions – it's a unique tabletop game. Remember to push the slider forward before firing so it doesn't block the spring line! Now turn on your 3D printer and print your own crossbow!


Please note: We used toothpicks to make the arrows. Please be aware that the mini crossbow has considerable shooting power and a long range. If you have children at home, we recommend using cotton swabs instead to avoid any danger.
