[Unboxing and Review] Mythical Bambu Lab X1 Carbon Combo Review: Assembly and Software Operation Revealed!
Hailed worldwide as the Game Changer of the 3D printer industry— the Bambulab X1 Carbon —has caused a sensation in the entire 3D printing sector! It even became one of the most successful hardware products in Kickstarter history and won TIME magazine's 2022 Best Invention Award. What magical power makes it so attractive? Let's unbox and test it out!

I. Unpacking Instructions
When opening the box, pick up the two foam pads. There are two arrows on the box; tear off the plastic straps on both sides and pull them up to pull the device out of the box.

Remove the top cover and the outermost layer of foam; the AMS is now secured inside the compartment. Use the included tools to unscrew the screws; the red arrow indicates the screw's location.

Take out the items from the tool kit in the following order: AMS automatic feeder, touchscreen, cable holder, power cord, two sets of connecting cables, tool assembly, 2 x Bambu low-temperature printing plate replacement film, 2 x hot end cleaning nozzles, heated bed solid adhesive, nozzle cleaning needle, 0.4mm hardened steel nozzle assembly, 2 x wire cutters, Bambu heated bed scraper blades, and 3 rolls of 250g Bambu cable (color random).

Open the glass door; there's a red arrow at the bottom. You'll need to loosen the two screws first. Then you can remove the AMS from the top. Peel off the protective cardboard from the printhead and remove the foam from the cable cleaning tank.

Remove the AMS mounting bracket, align it with the red arrow, and use the included tools to remove it.

Remove the tape from the screen/touchscreen connection cable. Gently wiggle the cable, being careful not to pull it too hard to avoid damaging it. Align the cable with the connector and insert it into the device as shown in the diagram, ensuring the screen is facing up.

Remove the tape from the screen/touchscreen connection cable. Gently wiggle the cable, being careful not to pull or damage it. Align the cable with the connector and insert it into the device as shown in the diagram. Make sure the screen is facing up.

Connect the two wires to the feed port of the AMS cable conduit and insert them into the corresponding pins. 4-pin to 4-pin, 6-pin to 6-pin.

Remove all the wrapping film from the AMS, open the AMS lid, open the lid containing the desiccant, tear open the desiccant packaging, and then put it back.

Simply unscrew the white part of the cable inlet latch and insert the cable to a certain length. AMS will automatically detect the cable material.

II. Calibration Process
Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration process; no extra effort is required. Noise during the calibration process is normal.
1. Set system language

2. Terms and Conditions

3. Whether or not to include the improvement plan

4. Pressing the calibration button will begin automatic calibration.

5. After the event ends, you will be greeted by a welcome screen from Bambu Lab .

III. Printing Operation
Remove the printing plate, apply a thin layer of the hot bed solid adhesive provided by the manufacturer, and then put it back in its correct position.

Download and install Bambu Studio . Bambu Studio supports 3MF files and can print multi-color models, supporting 16-color printing. Place the file you want to print into the software, set the parameters, press Preview, and then press Export Slice Software in the upper right corner to save the file to your SD card for printing.

There is an SD card slot on the right side of the touch screen for inserting an SD card. The touch screen can preview a thumbnail of the object to be printed, as well as the estimated printing time and weight in grams.

The laser radar and AI system automatically detect the print quality on the first floor and will send a notification if any abnormalities are found. Isn't that super convenient!

IV. Results Display
This printout features Mario game characters and took approximately 8 hours. The automatic color changing was incredibly convenient, and the Bambulab X1 Carbon's printing speed was amazing! With an acceleration of 500m/s and a print size of 256×256×256 mm, it can print many items at once without wasting too much time!

[Common Use]
1. How long does it take from unpacking to starting the first print?

The X1 can be set up in 30 minutes, including removing the fixing screws of the heated bed and AMS and downloading the software.
2. Does the printer have four modes? What are the differences in speed and noise between the various modes, especially the silent mode?
Different modes simply adjust the acceleration and speed in the original G-code according to a certain proportional coefficient. The silent mode uses the minimum acceleration and speed proportional coefficient.
3. How do I update the software?
The X1 and X1 Carbon models support software upgrades via OTA. When new software becomes available for download and installation, an update notification will be displayed on the printer screen.

[Consumables]
1. Which types of consumables does AMS not support?

*AMS does not support consumables that are too soft, such as TPU.
Using fragile or granular consumables may also cause AMS malfunctions.
2. Is it possible to switch between different materials, such as ABS and PLA, in a single print run using AMS?
Due to the limitations of the material properties of the consumables themselves, even if consumables with similar properties are mixed for printing, it may cause printhead clogging or the printed model may not meet expectations. Therefore, we recommend against using consumables with different properties for printing.
It should be noted that, in order to reduce the risk of failure, Bambu Studio restricts the printing of consumables with a temperature deviation greater than 15 degrees Celsius.
3. Do X1 series printers support third-party consumables?
Yes, it is compatible with any cable with a diameter of 1.75mm.

[slice]
1. Which printer functions cannot be used by third-party slicing software?

Functions such as the Automated Material Feeding System (AMS), lidar first-layer detection, and stir-fry detection cannot be integrated with third-party slicing software.
2. Are X1 series printers compatible with third-party slicing software?
Yes, third-party slicing software is supported, but it may be incompatible with some printer functions. We recommend using Bambu Studio for the best printing results.
3. When using AMS for printing, does the slicing software support materials with different printing temperatures?
This depends on the strength of the material bond and the temperature requirements of the printing space.
For example, ABS and PLA do not support mixed-color printing because the printing temperature difference is too large, which can easily cause printhead clogging.

[Accessories]
1. Is it possible to use a printing platform with other materials for printing?

Low-temperature printing panel: Supports printing temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius.
Engineering material printing panel: Supports printing temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius.
High-temperature printing panel (PEI material): Supports printing temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius.
2. Does AMS support third-party trays?
Yes, but the specifications of the third-party material trays should be between 50 and 68 mm, and the diameter should be between 192 and 202 mm.
3. Can the usage time of the nozzle be measured to facilitate replacement?
We recommend checking the nozzle wear to determine if replacement is necessary, as printing habits and differences in consumables can both cause nozzle wear and thus require replacement.
