Just as the human body needs sun protection, 3D printing filaments also need UV resistance? Industrial efficiency has evolved once again! Unaffected by prolonged UV exposure and rain, this new 3D printing filament boasts superior mechanical properties and exceptional durability for outdoor use. (Free file attached at the end of the article.)

Did you know that invisible ultraviolet rays not only affect the human body throughout the year , but also have a significant impact on 3D printing ? If parts or models are exposed to sunlight for extended periods, ultraviolet rays can cause "photo-oxidative decomposition" of the polymer, ultimately leading to breakage, discoloration, or even decomposition of the finished product!
We previously released a 3D printing filament comparison guide ( click to view ), and with the rapid development of filament types, we have now successively developed materials that can resist ultraviolet rays. Using UV-resistant 3D printing filaments , industrial parts that need to be used outdoors for a long time can not only resist the effects of long-term exposure to sunlight, but also effectively prevent wind and rain.
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate)
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a high-performance thermoplastic material with similar mechanical properties, processing properties, and chemical corrosion resistance to common ABS wire . The difference is that ASA material contains stabilizers, which fundamentally changes its outdoor durability and toughness. In addition to good antistatic properties, it can also effectively resist the external impact of ultraviolet rays.
Parts made with ASA have very smooth surfaces, making them suitable for use in heat sinks for ventilation ducts, and for testing and adjusting fan airflow; their high weather resistance and UV resistance make them ideal for making parts for tent connections, ensuring the stability and durability of the equipment.
Parts made with UV-resistant materials will not yellow or stain after long-term use, and their mechanical properties, strength, elasticity, and hardness will remain consistently stable!
Now, you can directly download various filament configuration parameters from the Ultimaker Marketplace, import the data into Ultimaker Cura, and easily use it with the Ultimaker 3D printer , thus significantly improving the stability of 3D printing . (After downloading the configuration file, in the Cura interface: Settings > Materials > Select Nozzle > Manage Materials, press the Import button, and then select the configuration file to import.)
