The latest version of UltiMaker Cura makes it easier to organize models on the virtual build platform, features exciting new plugin capabilities, and offers significant speed improvements for UltiMaker S-series printers.
UltiMaker is constantly striving to improve its products, including not only the latest models but also printers already in use by customers. This version of Cura can increase the 3D printing productivity of S-series users by up to two times when using UltiMaker materials.
Why do we say "productivity" instead of "speed"?
Simply printing faster is relatively easy, but doing so "without sacrificing quality" and "without increasing failure rates" is extremely difficult. With this update, printing can now be done in half the time while maintaining quality and reliability.
For example:
In Cura 5.4, printing a PETG part on an S5 with an AA 0.4 mm nozzle took 2 days and 35 minutes.
However, in Cura 5.5, under the same conditions, this was reduced to 1 day, 7 hours, and 19 minutes:
This improvement is due to both optimized settings and the introduction of new features. The main points are as follows:
Speed Optimization by Line Type
Print outer walls, inner walls, and supports at different speeds, with optimized acceleration and deceleration. This allows internal structures to be printed faster.
Smoother Inner Walls
Changed from traditional zigzag movement to smoother motion for increased speed.
Separation of Infill and Walls
Prevents overlap near walls, improving surface quality and reducing movement for faster printing.
AA 0.8 mm Nozzle Improvements
A profile that balances speed and quality has been added.
Using a larger diameter nozzle increases print speed, but layer lines become more noticeable.
However, with the new engine, high-quality printing is now possible even with a 0.8 mm nozzle.
