International pastry chef Philip Khoury is the go-to pastry chef for Harrods department store in London. He combines innovative techniques with kitchen use to design a variety of classic desserts. Khoury uses vacuum pressure molding technology to create large "chocolate desserts" with the theme of "blooming flowers" and produces them in small batches after the initial design is completed.
Traditional custom molds require 8-12 weeks of preparation time, and the average cost of producing one mold is 37,000 yuan. Curry collaborated with Mayku's chief designer, Agustín Arroyo, to design a 3D model of the flower in Fusion 360 software. The main concept is to design multiple grooves on the base, matching the size of the petals, and finally insert the petals into the pre-designed holes according to their size to form a natural, budding chocolate flower.
First, the most important core component, the "chocolate petals," was made. A 3D printer was used to create the petal model. Curry then placed the 3D-printed petals into the Mayku Multiplier vacuum pressure molding machine . Unlike the previous FormBox vacuum molding machine , the Multiplier has twice the suction power and molding size, and can produce a wider variety of objects.

By lifting the handle of the Multiplier vacuum compression molding machine , you can first place a raised frame, and then place the 3D printed model in the middle of the frame to simulate the production of a traditional mold box.

Next, using a special vacuum forming material sheet, the machine is set to start heating. When heated to a certain temperature, the injection sheet will soften and sag due to the heat. At this point, simply press down the handle to start vacuum forming. A customized mold can be made every 5 minutes. And by simply repeating the vacuum forming material sheet, petal molds with the exact same shape can be replicated indefinitely.
