【3D Printing】Luxembourg's First 3D Printed House

Czech company ICE Industrial Services has recently completed Luxembourg's first 3D printed concrete house. This project highlights the potential of additive manufacturing (AM) in the construction industry and offers an innovative solution to Europe's housing challenges.
Jiří Jílek, Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Luxembourg, stated, "This house, built with proprietary 3D printing technology, clearly demonstrates that Czech companies are highly competitive in the Luxembourg market through high-quality, advanced construction projects."
With a floor area of 56 square meters, the house is designed for a young couple and features basic amenities including a kitchenette, living room, multi-purpose room, bathroom, and hallway. It achieves near-total energy self-sufficiency through solar panels and ten energy storage units. The retail price for this demonstration project is approximately 8 million Czech koruna (around 325,000 euros), and with over 20 purchase inquiries already received, the strong demand is evident.
ICE’s construction system utilizes local mineral materials, enabling flexible and efficient construction while ensuring structural performance. The Czech Republic has a long track record in 3D printed architecture. In 2020, the "Prvok" floating house debuted as the country's first 3D printed building , and since then, the application of this technology has expanded into various infrastructure projects.
As the Luxembourg demonstration project gains international attention, ICE Industrial Services is actively engaged in the transition toward new, sustainable housing methods in Europe. Pavel Zelenka, representative for Belgium and Luxembourg at CzechTrade, commented, "The hallmark of this project is its exceptional flexibility and efficiency in terms of both time and cost. The fact that Luxembourg has adopted this system is a testament to the excellence of Czech technology."
| 3D Printed Architecture Progresses Globally
The progress made by Czech companies reflects a global shift in the construction industry toward digital building methods. In 2024, Portugal's Havelar announced the completion of the country's first 3D printed house. Located in the Porto metropolitan area, the 80-square-meter, two-bedroom home was printed in 18 hours using a COBOD BOD2 printer, demonstrating high efficiency in construction. The project is supported by architects Aires Mateus, Glória Cabral, and Francis Kéré.
In Buena Vista, Colorado, USA, the first community of 3D printed homes has also emerged. The houses, developed by VeroTouch, received a grant of up to $618,000 from the state’s Innovative Housing Incentive Program (IHIP). Each unit is approximately 109 square meters and uses a patented 3D printing system as part of the VeroVistas project, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, structural durability, and fire resistance.
VeroTouch is collaborating with South Main on plans to construct an additional 31 homes in the Cleora development district. By verifying the scalability, level of automation, and material efficiency of large-scale projects, they aim to alleviate housing shortages through additive manufacturing while improving construction productivity.
