Beyond Kickstarter, Bambu Lab's MakerWorld platform has introduced a new crowdfunding feature to support outstanding 3D printing projects.
A new Kickstarter-like platform has arrived on Bambu Lab’s MakerWorld, featuring crowdfunding capabilities. It aims to help creators realize their printing projects by receiving small amounts of financial support from fellow makers.

If you need a little funding to move a groundbreaking 3D printing project from concept to reality, Bambu Lab understands your situation well.
The company has just launched what it calls an "ideal testing ground" for bringing creative ideas to life.
Why is it needed?
Bambu Lab stated in a blog post, "We have seen many amazing ideas that ultimately never came to fruition because they were too large, too complex, or required resources that an individual creator did not possess."
With this new initiative, the 3D printing community can support projects by pledging financial backing.
To support a maker, you must register your credit card information. Once the project reaches its funding goal, the pledged amount (starting from approximately 10 USD) will be charged.
However, as with Kickstarter, please note that the funds are considered a contribution to the creator's effort to realize a new idea, rather than a purchase of a finished product.
Therefore, if the project ultimately fails to deliver results, there are no refunds.
Bambu Lab explains in a disclaimer, "You are backing ambitious and unproven creative projects. Even with the creator's best efforts, they may not be able to provide rewards."
Many projects offer symbolic rewards to backers to show appreciation for their financial support.
Rewards vary and may include physical models of the project, exclusive digital files, behind-the-scenes production tutorials, or custom 3D printed goods.
Neither MakerWorld nor the creators guarantee rewards or compensation.
According to Bambu Lab, the 3D printing community has always been a place where people share knowledge and encourage each other to take on new challenges.
"Crowdfunding felt like the natural next step—a way to pool resources and support the projects we are most passionate about."

How does it work?
The process is very simple.
Creators can launch a crowdfunding campaign for an upcoming project, setting a funding goal and a duration.
Community members can browse the campaigns and pledge support for projects they want to see completed.
This service is effective because it directly connects creators with the people who value their work the most.
There is no need to guess what the community wants; supporting a project provides direct evidence of that demand.
For Creators:
Introduce your project — Submit a detailed proposal outlining your idea. What is the model? What makes it unique? How will you use the funds?
Remember that high-quality visuals are powerful for showcasing your project and attracting more support.
Set a goal — Set a funding goal that covers actual costs, such as software licenses, materials, and the labor required for finishing details.
Choose an appropriate duration from 30, 45, or 60 days. Being concrete is important; backers prefer clear goals!
Prepare rewards — Show your gratitude to backers by preparing perks corresponding to their pledge levels.
Go beyond ordinary models; think about exclusive digital files, behind-the-scenes tutorials, custom 3D prints based on your designs, DIY kits, or even individually customized items. The more unique, the more attractive.
Launch and connect — Once your project is approved, you can publish it! Be transparent about how funds will be used and the challenges you face.
Providing continuous updates and actively responding to comments builds trust and helps manage expectations effectively. We will showcase excellent projects both inside and outside the platform to help you reach your goals.
For Backers:
Browse ongoing campaigns, find projects that excite you, and pledge your support. Receive exclusive perks such as early downloads or special editions.
Watch the journey of the creator bringing their idea to life! You can also connect with other like-minded backers.
While anyone can start a crowdfunding campaign, Bambu Lab is currently accepting applications by invitation only "to ensure a smooth introduction of the new feature."
To submit your idea for review, send a project summary along with visuals or renderings to models@makerworld.com, with the subject line "Crowdfunding Project Application."
The new "Crowdfunding" tab on MakerWorld features projects such as games, lamps, wallets, keyboards, and various other models, all seeking hundreds of US dollars in support.
Much like the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, MakerWorld Crowdfunding contains a wealth of information.
Bambu Lab asks that creators provide as much detail as possible, including images, videos, required resources (such as software licenses or materials), the campaign duration (30-60 days), and rewards for backers.
Bambu Lab states that to build trust and manage expectations properly, it encourages creators to provide continuous updates and actively respond to comments on the platform.
"We will showcase excellent projects both inside and outside the platform to help you reach your goals."
This Kickstarter-like platform also resonates with the Patreon-like features that Bambu Lab introduced to MakerWorld earlier this year, which offers a commercial membership system alongside the popular free 3D model library.

The Vision
Bambu Lab hopes that projects requiring careful consideration, design, and engineering can be realized through crowdfunding.
Such projects are often too burdensome for individuals to tackle alone and often fall by the wayside because they are unsure if anyone will appreciate them.
Crowdfunding can change that status quo.
Bambu Lab is excited to see what happens next.
No one yet knows what kind of projects creators will produce or what the community will support the most.
Will collaboration among creators spread even further? Of course, the company hopes so!
The answer will reveal itself soon. That is exactly what makes it exciting.
