[3D Printing] 7 Charming Gnomes to 3D Print

Gnomes are charming creatures that add a magical atmosphere and personality to any space.
Whether you are a fan of these mystical beings or just want to add a fun accent to your room, 3D printing allows you to create your very own little gnomes at home.

Gnomes are creatures from European folklore, characterized by their small stature, red hats, and lumberjack-like attire. They are said to be active underground and often appear in groups.
The etymology of "gnome" is thought to come from "Ge" (earth) + "Nomos" (home), or from "Gnosis" (knower). In Western households, ornaments featuring gnome motifs are a common sight.

From realistic models to stylish and functional pieces, whether you have 3D printing experience or not, you are sure to find a favorite in this article.
We will introduce charming 3D printed gnome models, each with its own unique characteristics, along with key tips for achieving the best finish.
Whether you are looking for garden decorations, original gifts, or simply want to enjoy creative 3D printing, these designs are sure to satisfy. Check them out and choose your favorite!

If your garden feels like it’s missing something but you can’t quite put your finger on what, why not add a handsome guardian like "Gus"? If you plan on placing this adorable model in your garden, be sure to check out our dedicated article that details methods for waterproofing.

GUS

The original size for Gus is 17 cm, but if you scale it down by 50%, you can use it as a small flowerpot. It fits into any environment and will always guard your home with its unique charm.

The design is not only fun but also extremely easy to 3D print. This gnome requires neither support structures nor infill. The designer recommends a layer height of 0.2 mm for the larger version, and a finer 0.12 mm for the smaller version.
If you plan to place it outdoors, PLA might not be the best option, so consider more durable materials like PETG.

The smaller version is just 9 cm tall, and regardless of size, it is perfect as a figurine for enjoying some painting.
One creator used a clever trick with marble-effect PLA for the beard, giving it a very cool look.

Man 2 Autumn

Gnomes are inherently creatures that love the earth and gardens. Even if you don't have a garden, you can still have a little gnome of your own.
This little gnome is packed with adorable design details, such as decorations on its hat and the pumpkin and sunflower it holds in its hands.

You can enjoy painting it to your heart's content, or if your machine supports multi-color printing, it is even easier to finish.
So it doesn't feel lonely, the designer has also created equally adorable companions.

In 3D printing, smaller layer heights allow for smoother details, which is especially effective when printing in smaller sizes.
The print profile shared by the designer includes settings for a 0.08 mm layer height, 2 walls, 15% infill, and tree supports, with a print time of approximately 3 hours for the standard size.
Creator TheBigSlice successfully scaled the parts down to 300%, though this takes about 14 hours to print.

Protognome

Featuring a flexible and charming design, this model is perfect for those who love creative 3D printing.

A particularly cool point about the Protognome is that you can choose from two types of beards.
You can print the regular, well-groomed beard as a "fixed" part, or choose the gnome with the swaying beard, as shown in the image above.

Since this model has an interlocking part structure, you don't have to worry even if you don't have multi-color printing capabilities.
Recommended print settings are 15-20% infill and a 0.2 mm layer height. The hat requires support structures, but the beard is optional.
The designer also notes that due to tolerances when printing parts separately, some sanding or gluing may be required.

Support-Free Gnome

Each gnome has its own unique features and personality. One of the greatest features of this design is that the protruding beard requires no supports!

Whether you paint it, use special filaments, or finish it in a single color, it will look amazing either way!
For those who want to get the most out of their Bambu Lab AMS, a creator on MakerWorld has released a print profile designed specifically for AMS.

This design has also received high praise across multiple model-sharing sites.
It should print without issues using standard settings such as a 0.2 mm layer height, 15% infill, and 2 walls. For a single color, the print time is about 3 hours.
There are a total of 7 remix models of this famous gnome on Printables and Thingiverse.
From chess sets to ornaments and glasses stands, there is a wide variety of variations, and all of them make fun gift ideas!

Baby Gnome

For those looking to add cuteness and creativity to a nursery, use as baby shower decorations, or just keep something cute around, the Baby Gnome model is an irresistible choice.
The charming design combines delicate details and fun shapes, making it perfect for fans of unique 3D models.

For printing the Baby Gnome, the designer has released a profile with a 0.16 mm layer height, 3 walls, and 10% infill to ensure model strength.
It can be printed in either multi-color or single-color, and files are available in both STL and 3MF formats.
While PLA is considered relatively safe for food contact, please exercise caution if creating products like those in the image above.

Shmebulock from "Gravity Falls"

If you are a fan of "Gravity Falls" and want to add the magic and humor of the series to your collection, why not try printing Shmebulock?
This little gnome has been under a curse for 1,000 years and can only repeat his own name.

Actually, Shmebulock isn't the only gnome that appears in Gravity Falls. For this reason, he is sometimes confused with other mysterious creatures like Steve.
While Shmebulock is designed purely for decorative purposes, Steve features practicality and makes squeezing toothpaste out a fun performance.

There are no shared print settings for both gnomes, but considering the structure with hands floating in mid-air, it is easy to imagine that support structures will be necessary.
For reference, the model in the image above uses settings of a 0.2 mm layer height and 20% infill.

Gnome Keychain

Gnomes appear in gardens, forests, and almost every safe place they find!
These cute creatures might be mischievous, but they also have a very adorable side, and you can even carry them around in your pocket.

Why not 3D print a little guardian to protect your heart and your keys?
Even if you already have a favorite keychain, you can use these as cute accessories for your bag or backpack.

This model is approximately 50 x 15 mm, and a profile for 2-color printing using AMS is available.
Of course, if you follow the guide in the image above, painting is not too difficult.
As for settings, the print profile released by the designer includes a 0.2 mm layer height, 2 walls, and 15% infill, with a print time of about 5 hours.
