Bambu Lab has surpassed the boundaries of traditional 3D printers by announcing the H2D, which integrates 3D printing, laser engraving, pen drawing, and cutting capabilities.
This product inherits the ease of use and technical innovation that have been Bambu Lab's strengths, while also boldly embracing a modular approach to functionality. It aims to meet the diverse needs of advanced users and makers looking to process a variety of materials.
Today, we are unboxing the 40W laser version of the H2D!

The H2D 40W laser set includes all the tools available for the H2D.
In addition to 3D printing capabilities, it comes with a cutting module including a pen holder and a 40W rated output diode laser module.
A lower-power 10W laser option is also available.

Expanding creative possibilities with laser and cutting modules
If you are unfamiliar with the uses of these tools, imagine a 2D world.
Think of flat designs that can be layered, cutouts, or parts attached to other items to add texture or visual appeal.
Decals, labels, frames, and inlays are things that cannot always be finished perfectly with multi-color 3D printing.
The materials you choose will depend on the tools you use.
The H2D's cutting module is a drag knife that makes shallow cuts, allowing you to neatly cut thin materials like paper, cardstock, vinyl, and certain fabrics.
The laser module is suitable for cutting and engraving wood, acrylic, and similar materials over a millimeter in thickness.

The laser and cutting modules attach to the front of the H2D print head and are secured by a friction-based lever after being inserted into place.
Because the base tool head (the 3D printing component) stays fixed, the H2D outperforms many all-in-one machines from other brands.
When switching functions, you simply add a module rather than removing and replacing the entire print head, making it more efficient.
40W Laser Module
The 40W laser can cut through several millimeters of thickness in a single pass.
To do this, you must connect the air assist tube so the H2D can blow away debris during cutting.
The air pump hose connects to the fitting located between the two filament fittings on the back of the H2D chamber. You must remove the safety screw to operate the air pump.

The laser plate included with the H2D is where you place the materials to be laser-cut. The spaced slats are adjustable to accommodate materials requiring different support positions.
As expected from Bambu Lab's high-performance systems, it is equipped with numerous automation and self-diagnostic features.
Multiple H2D cameras scan the barcodes on the plate, and the software recognizes the plate's contents to verify that it is suitable for the intended task.

The laser module allows you to quickly and easily create a variety of items using leather, cork, wood, paper, and more.
The 40W laser module can also mark certain metals.
Both the 10W and 40W laser modules from Bambu Lab are blue diode lasers, supporting a wider range of materials for engraving and cutting.
Bambu Suite
Bambu Suite allows you to create and manage all jobs utilizing the H2D's non-3D printing functions, such as laser processing, cutting, and drawing with the pen holder.
You can combine these functions into a single job or work in tandem with a regular 2D printer for "print-then-cut" tasks.
For 3D printing, you load a model, adjust the settings, and slice it. In other words: preparation, preview, and print.
Bambu Suite, on the other hand, provides a workspace for production and features tools that let you start from scratch.
These tools include basic shapes, text features with an extensive font library, an image library containing emojis and general-purpose icons, and a pen tool for drawing lines and curves by connecting points.
It also includes a QR code generation tool and the ability to add offset contours like stickers to your work.

Once the production phase is complete, you move to the preparation area.
Here, you can utilize Bambu Suite's smart features, such as batch processing and automatic alignment.
The H2D's camera array allows you to accurately view the workspace, letting you position designs on the screen and align them perfectly with the material.
Safety
To ensure user peace of mind, Bambu Lab has gone to great lengths, placing multiple fire sensors inside the enclosed unit and incorporating a powerful exhaust system to quickly vent smoke.
The H2D filters the air inside the chamber through three layers of filters and vents it powerfully out through an exhaust pipe. For effective venting, it is guided to an open window or air purifier.
The H2D's hose and mounting clips provide several meters of piping, allowing for flexible installation locations, as you can connect it from the H2D to the smoke exhaust device and then to a window.

Another difference between laser processing and 3D printing workflows on the H2D is that users must be present at the machine for all cutting tasks.
You are required to press a button to verify the operation, and both the machine and software remind you not to leave the unit unattended.
The H2D Full Laser version comes standard with a red push-button emergency stop switch.
In case of a problem, you can stop the machine's operation immediately.
Once the laser task is complete, a countdown is displayed if the H2D recognizes the material that was engraved or cut. You are prompted to wait a certain amount of time for sufficient smoke ventilation before removing the material.
The H2D's laser processing is quite clean even in actual use. Additionally, the machine features maintenance tracking, recording each job and notifying you when cleaning is required.
Is the H2D worth choosing as a multi-function machine?
The longer you use such crafting tools, the more you discover materials and processing methods that complement each other.
While 3D printing alone can produce wonderful things, items like cork pads, foam backing, and felt liners can be made with simple cutting tasks and greatly enhance the tactile quality of your 3D-printed products.
In that sense, the H2D is a very practical machine.

For those attracted to the H2D's multi-material capabilities, this machine is an ideal choice.
The base configuration is an excellent dual extruder that uses two nozzles to perform multi-color and multi-material printing efficiently and at high speeds.
Furthermore, by adding multiple Bambu Lab AMS units, you can maximize its capabilities and increase the number of materials used in a single job.
While some features of the H2D are found in other systems, there is currently no product that rivals the H2D in terms of versatility.
