55W CO₂ Laser
Capable of cutting and engraving materials such as wood and clear acrylic, expanding possibilities for board processing and custom creation.
600 × 300 mm Workspace
Provides a practical processing area. Supports long materials when combined with an optional conveyor and riser base.
Up to 1,000 mm/s
Combines motion control and laser power compensation to boost efficiency while maintaining intricate engraving detail.
Auto-Calibration
Uses dedicated sensors to detect and adjust the laser path, simplifying the traditional manual mirror adjustment process.
Expand Creative Potential with the 55W CO₂ Laser
From Wood and Clear Acrylic to Leather and Fabric
The R1 supports cutting and engraving on wood, acrylic (including clear acrylic), leather, fabric, and paper, as well as engraving on glass and coated metal surfaces.
You can use a variety of materials for lighting, decorations, fashion accessories, and custom pieces, highlighting the unique texture and feel of each.
Materials supported for cutting and engraving are not identical. Glass and coated metals are for engraving purposes only and cannot be cut. The device does not support direct engraving on untreated bare metal.
Cut Thick Plates in One Pass to Reduce Repetitive Processing
By using optional medium-focus or long-focus lenses, the manufacturer's demo shows that you can cut up to 18 mm black walnut plywood and 20 mm acrylic in a single pass. Different focal lengths can be selected based on material thickness and application.
According to manufacturer specifications, the short-focus lens has a maximum cutting capacity of 15 mm black walnut plywood / 20 mm acrylic. All wood thicknesses mentioned refer to plywood; actual results depend on material quality, lens choice, and processing parameters.

From Desktop Creations to Furniture-Sized Projects
600 × 300 mm Standard Workspace
The R1 features a native 600 × 300 mm processing area, suitable for board cutting, decorative engraving, and batch production layout.
Optional Auto-Conveyor for Materials up to 3 Meters Long
By combining the Auto-Conveyor and Riser Base, the processing area can be extended to 600 × 3,000 mm. You can process long boards in sequence for floor lamps, tabletops, shelving, and furniture components.
Installing the Riser Base or auto-feed accessory compromises the machine's fully enclosed structure, changing the laser classification from Class 1 to Class 4. Wear protective glasses suitable for CO₂ lasers and follow the manufacturer's safety regulations during operation.
Simplify Pre-Processing with Auto-Calibration
Auto Laser Alignment
The CO₂ laser beam is transmitted to the processing position via mirrors. The R1 measures the beam with a Laser Alignment Sensor on the tool head, detecting and automatically correcting deviations to eliminate the need for manual test firing and repeated mirror adjustments.
According to the manufacturer, the calibration process is completed in under a minute, making routine beam maintenance much easier.

TriSense System: Positioning, Ranging, and Motion Tracking
Coordinated Dual Cameras, Dual Lasers, and Dual Encoders
TriSense integrates workspace imagery, material surface height, and tool head positioning information to support pre-processing placement and auto-focusing. The manufacturer-stated positioning accuracy is less than 0.2 mm.
BirdsEye Camera
Captures the entire workspace to verify the overall alignment between materials and designs.
Tool Head Camera
Provides a close-up view of the processing area to assist with small object positioning and contour recognition.
Pinpoint and Measurement Lasers
The Pinpoint Laser indicates position, while the Distance Measurement Laser determines surface height to set focal length.
XY-Axis Encoders
Track the tool head's location in real-time to provide feedback on motion during processing.
High-Precision Positioning for Diverse Surfaces
Whether the workpiece is tilted, curved, or very small, the R1 uses TriSense to read surface data and assist in placing designs accurately.
Curved Surface Height Sensing
Measures surface undulations to adjust focal length and maintain clarity for curved engravings. Please check actual configurations for workpiece shapes, available modes, and necessary jigs.
Transparent Material Positioning
Measures the surface of transparent materials like glass and acrylic to help place designs precisely. Note that glass supports engraving but not cutting.
Precision Alignment for Small Objects
Uses the tool head camera to identify small objects, making it easier to align small designs or text within the workspace.
Contour Following for Printed Designs
Recognizes design boundaries to perform cutting based on printed patterns, stickers, or hand-drawn contours.
Bambu Motion Control Balances Speed and Detail
Vibration Compensation for Crisp Lines
When the tool head changes direction at high speeds, machine vibrations can affect line quality. The R1 uses vibration compensation technology to suppress artifacts and improve edge quality and detail in engravings.
Up to 1,000 mm/s with Speed-Synced Power
The R1 achieves a top processing speed of 1,000 mm/s and acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². Speed-Synced Laser Power adjusts output based on head movement speed to maintain consistent depth and tone.
Top speed does not imply all materials can be cut at this rate. Actual parameters must be set according to material type, thickness, design, and quality requirements.
Airflow Management and Multi-Layer Safety
Crossflow Air Exhaust
Draws fresh air from one side and expels smoke from the other, creating a consistent airflow through the processing chamber.
Optional E1 Pro Air Purifier
The E1 Pro connects directly to the R1’s exhaust, using multi-layer filters and activated carbon to trap smoke, particulates, and reduce odors. Sold separately.
Lid Open Protection, Flame Detection, and Emergency Stop
Opening the top lid causes the laser to stop immediately and remain disabled while open. Built-in sensors monitor for signs of fire, and the emergency stop button allows for an immediate power cut.
The Auto Fire Extinguishing System must be purchased separately to use this feature.
The R1 is a Class 1 laser product in its standard enclosed configuration. Installing a riser base or auto-feed accessory changes it to Class 4, requiring appropriate safety measures. Follow manufacturer guidelines for exhaust and monitoring; do not rely on safety features as a substitute for active supervision.
Bambu Suite Ecosystem and Accessory Expansion
Bambu Suite Software
The R1 uses Bambu Suite (Windows and macOS) and integrates with your Bambu account and the MakerWorld creative ecosystem.
Auto-Focus and Material Recognition
Supports auto-focus and automatic material recognition. Automatic recognition is limited to official Bambu Lab materials and may not identify all third-party materials.
Optional Accessories for Every Need
The Riser Base provides space for tall workpieces and is required for the conveyor and rotary attachment. Medium/Long-focus lenses are available for thicker materials.
The Riser Base, Conveyor, Rotary Attachment, specialized lenses, Vision Encoder, E1 Pro, and fire extinguisher system are all sold separately. Please confirm your specific package and availability at purchase.
Bambu Lab R1 FAQ
Is the R1 a 3D printer?
No. The R1 is a standalone CO₂ laser engraver/cutter. It processes board and surface materials via laser; it does not use filament extrusion to build 3D objects.
Can the R1 cut clear acrylic or glass?
Clear acrylic can be cut and engraved. Glass is designated for engraving only and cannot be cut. Select your processing method according to material type, thickness, and manufacturer-recommended parameters.
What accessories do I need for 3-meter long boards?
You must purchase the Auto-Conveyor and Riser Base and ensure enough space for board entry and exit. This configuration changes the safety class to 4, requiring adherence to appropriate safety protocols.
What is the difference between 55W and 780W?
55W refers to the CO₂ laser output power, while 780W is the machine's maximum total power consumption. These are separate specifications.
Does automatic recognition work for all materials?
No. Automatic material recognition is limited to official Bambu Lab materials. You must manually verify processing settings for third-party materials.
