[3D Printing Workshop] A Review of the 2024 NTU Electrical Engineering Makers' Workshop (MakeNTU)
It was a pleasure to participate again in the 2024 NTU Makers' Workshop (MakeNTU) . To ensure the smooth running of the Makers' Workshop competition from May 4th to 5th, students first learned basic printing concepts and knowledge, followed by hands-on practice. The SanDiMa staff specially prepared 3D printing slicing software and physical equipment training, covering normal slicing, multi-color printing, support settings, filament replacement, basic machine precautions, and maintenance. We also listened to the students' different design ideas and needs. In the workshop, we guided students with no prior experience to use the Bambu Lab series 3D printer , and to actually operate and test their desired 3D printed works!
What is Make NTU ?
The 2024 MakeNTU event, themed "Explorer," upholds the philosophy of "We need it, we create it." The event encourages participants to identify problems in their daily lives and, by combining their knowledge and skills, embody the Maker spirit to put their ideas into practice and give back to society. Participants are required to transcend existing knowledge and technological frameworks, think from new perspectives, and create impactful works.

The main theme is "hardware and software integration" : emphasizing hardware implementation, supplemented by software development and product design, participants need to create physical works that are close to life in a short period of time.
Emphasis on "cooperation and exchange" : Connecting outstanding students from all over Taiwan to promote exchange and cooperation between different fields and drive technological development.
Focus on "Corporate Connections" : Build bridges of cooperation between companies and participants, encourage companies to provide internship or job opportunities for outstanding participants, promote industry-academia collaboration, and extend the value of the event.
Through these efforts, MakeNTU hopes that participants will be bold in exploring various ideas and creativity, and create novel and practical inventions to solve real-life problems.
Workshop Highlights
This time, we have specially selected the highly popular Banbu Lab desktop full-color 3D printers: X1 Carbon Combo , P1S Combo , and X1E 3D printers . Unlike previous 3D printers, these printers combine printing speed and quality with very simple and intuitive software operation . In the past, understanding the installation, calibration, testing, and slicing software of 3D printers, along with the cumbersome parameter settings, is much easier. At Bambu Lab, students from National Taiwan University can complete various creative ideas in the shortest time. Especially for beginners, it is simple and quick to get started. Participants do not need to have too much professional knowledge to print finished products with its powerful functions, and can thus focus more on the product design itself, realize their innovative concepts, and transform them into concrete practical works.
We specially prepared 3D printed works and samples made by ourselves on-site, all produced by Bambu Lab X1 Carbon Combo , P1S Combo , and X1E 3D printers . These were provided for students to refer to in terms of size and complexity. We also generously shared our printing experience and professional techniques.

The simplified introduction to the features of various 3D printers highlights their unique characteristics, such as semi-automatic belt tensioning , intelligent internal control systems for the printheads , and constant temperature control within the machine casing . These details determine the speed and print quality control that make 3D printers renowned in the industry!
The instructor also carefully explained the execution steps of the slicing software "Bambu Studio" and the parameters of various printed objects, including: layer height, internal and external strength, support, and printing speed. Students were also able to observe the samples we made more concretely and apply them to their competition entries.
(Left) Observing the effect of layer height setting on the appearance of printed products; (Right) The effect of printing with different support settings.

Because we are familiar with and trust Bambu Lab's 3D printers, we spontaneously created a David statue on the spot before our presentation, and it took less than 1.6 hours with excellent quality!
After an intensive workshop on 3D printing, we believe the participating students have gained a lot! 3DMart hopes everyone can use what they've learned to shine in the competition! See you again on the day of the competition!
