[3D Printing Applications] 5 Successful Cases of Ultimaker: Covering Medical and Fashion!

Tonight, as we bid farewell to 2020, and as we draw to a close, let's look back at five successful case studies of individual development and team collaborations using 3D printing technology in fields such as architecture, automotive, healthcare, and manufacturing around the world:

• VHP Victorian Hand Project (Medical Assistive Devices)
The Victoria Hand Project (VHP) is a Canadian nonprofit organization whose goal is to help impoverished and resource-scarce countries around the world by providing prosthetics and orthotics to those in need. Currently, in collaboration with medical professionals and technical experts, they utilize the Ultimaker 3D printer to serve 10 countries (Nepal, Cambodia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Haiti, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Canada, and remote areas of the United States), successfully producing a large number of affordable, highly functional 3D-printed medical assistive devices.

• Recycled nylon thread, eco-friendly and sustainable
Global climate change has led to a sharp increase in the amount of waste in our living environment, with non-biodegradable plastics having a direct impact on the ecological environment. Ian Falconer, founder of the UK-based company Fisher Filaments, has created 100% recycled nylon 3D printing filaments using old fishing nets.

This reduction in manufacturing methods not only reduces carbon emissions from materials used in manufacturing, but also creates a sustainable business model. Research has shown that Fisher Filaments' production process has successfully reduced carbon emissions by 97-98% compared to conventional nylon materials.

Dutch fashion design
Dutch design company Arívan Twillert, founded by designer Lidewij van Twillert, used the Ultimaker 3D printer and a 3D human body scanner to design a chest support called Curvearis. The product can precisely follow the curves of the human body and has successfully obtained a design patent, perfectly integrating fashion design and cutting-edge technology!
3D printed metal artwork
London-based artist Maciej Gorski uses the Ultimaker 3D printer to handle everything from sculpting to model making, breaking through traditional art creation processes to design high-quality metal artworks with smooth surfaces and complete details.

• Face shields (medical supplies)
2020 was the year of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia). Adi Pandzic, a product design engineer in Bosnia, owned hundreds of Ultimaker 3D printers . His team was the first in Europe to use 3D printers to mass-produce protective face shields. They also developed more than 5,000 kinds of medical assistive devices using hot melt stacking (FDM) 3D printing technology .

Did you enjoy this sharing session? From construction, manufacturing, and the automotive industry to healthcare, 3D printing technology has created various successful use cases. In fact, it's not just new technologies like 3D printers ; 3D scanning , laser processing , and other technologies can also become powerful tools for businesses in many fields around the world. Ultimaker offers more than just 3D printing . Contact us now to learn more about the detailed information and application examples of Ultimaker 3D printers .
