[3D Scanning] 3DMakerpro to Launch New Low-Cost Full-Color Spatial Scanner
Formnext 2024 just concluded in November, with companies launching new products covering the entire added-layer manufacturing ecosystem.
3D scanner manufacturer 3DMakerpro has launched a particularly interesting product.
The company launched Eagle, a new LiDAR-based space scanner suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
During the Frankfurt trade fair, 3D Printing Industry interviewed Yuwen Tianshi, Global Marketing Director, and Luo Wei, Head of R&D at 3DMakerpro.
They emphasized that Eagle will stand out in the 3D scanner market thanks to its wide scanning range, portability, impressive full-color texture camera, and ability to operate in a variety of environments.
In addition, the discussion also outlined novel 3D scanning applications, in which 3DMakerpro has expanded from the hobbyist field to the industrial manufacturing and real estate markets.
Yuwen and Luo Wei also got a sneak peek at 3DMakerpro's upcoming products, including a new consumer-grade 3D scanner and the company's foray into the medical field.
"We believe that space scanning is very important and is one of the main scenarios we expect to see in the near future," Yuwen added.
Yuwen explained that the product will soon be launched on Kickstarter, and reports indicate that "there is a huge price gap between Eagle and other space scanners."
This will lower the barrier to entry for 3D scanning of indoor and outdoor spaces. The Eagle will be priced between $1,500 and $2,500.
In addition to Eagle, 3DMaker also showcased an additional "spatial scanner" at the Formnext booth.
While detailed information about this product, which is larger than the Eagle, is currently limited, Yuwen explained that it will incorporate more advanced features to achieve higher-quality scanning. The scanner will be released after the Eagle's official launch.

3DMakerpro Eagle Spatial Scanner
Eagle marks a significant shift in 3DMakerpro's existing consumer product portfolio, which includes the Moose , Mole , and Seal 3D scanners.
According to Yuwen, the new product is not focused on scanning a single object, but is designed as a 3D scanner "suitable for the entire environment".
By combining a 905 nm laser light source with four high-quality 48MP texture cameras, 3DMakerpro's Eagle offers a scanning range of 80 to 140 meters and a scanning radius of up to 70 meters.
It can achieve 3D scanning accuracy of 2cm at 10 meters, 3cm at 20 meters, and 5cm at 40 meters.
This allows users to capture a wide range of internal and external environments, from factories and production facilities to luxury apartments and mines.
One of Eagle's key advantages is its 12,000 mAh built-in battery power.
Unlike the previous 3DMakerpro scanner, which required a power supply during use, the new system supports one hour of wireless 3D scanning.
This enhances its flexibility, providing users with greater freedom to scan complex spaces that are difficult to access.
Measuring 115 mm x 181 mm x 106 mm and weighing only 1.5 kg, the Eagle is a handheld device optimized for mobile scanning in various spaces.
"You simply take your scanner, walk around the city and streets, capture the environment you need, and quickly generate point clouds for 3D models," Yuwen commented. Eagle can capture 200,000 data points per second.
3DMakerpro provides proprietary software for Eagle that can export 3D data in PLY and OBJ file formats, including point, color, Gaussian sputtering, and panoramic tour data.
It is worth noting that Yuwen explained that the company is currently developing a new data exchange platform to support the needs of space scanning.
"Through spatial scanning, users can obtain more data and may want to modify the 3D model," explained the marketing director of 3DMakerpro. "So we are currently testing the platform for this software."
Unlock new 3D scanning applications
Yuwen stated that since 2023, 3DMakerpro has witnessed a continuous increase in demand for affordable spatial scanning capabilities.
The company decided to move beyond 3D scanners for single objects and instead focus on "expanding user scenarios and creating more possibilities for the 3D scanning industry."
Luo Wei added that there is a gap in the market for spatial 3D scanners.
"There aren't many brands, companies, or products focused on this area, so we're trying to enhance these capabilities through our own investment and development. "
One key application they emphasized was related to the real estate market.
Eagle can be used to accurately map the interior and exterior of houses and apartments and convert them into 3D models.
Agents and developers can then use this information when presenting the property to potential clients.
They pointed out additional use cases for digital twins and digital assets.
3DMakerpro has attracted the interest of customers looking to digitize their factories to optimize floor plan efficiency and quality control.
Demand also comes from the mining industry. Companies operating mines around the world may experience months of waiting for accurate feedback and quality reports.
"You can't fly to these mines every day." Therefore, Eagle scanners allow these clients to collect data and build detailed 3D models, which can then be used to visualize and fix problems from any location.
The virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) markets within the technology industry are also growing rapidly. Eagle will become a unique content creation device for VR and 3D film production applications.
Mr. Wei stated that he plans to develop a "3D action camera" in the future to further address these creative applications.
He believes that 3D modeling will become the primary medium for expressing content, and 3D scanning will play a key role in supporting this process.
Yuwen agreed with his assessment, tracing the evolution of visual expression from "pictures, to digital images, to videos, and now to three dimensions."
The Future of 3DMakerpro
What is the future trajectory of 3DMakerpro? Yuwen explained that the company has "two directions": one is to focus on the consumer product portfolio, and the other is "more advanced technology".
On the consumer side, 3DMakerpro will launch a new 3D scanner next year, which will enrich its existing portfolio of low-cost, high-precision products.
Yuwen stated that this will become "the true definition of consumer-grade," further enabling more people to use 3D scanning.
On the other hand, 3DMakerpro is also working on developing 3D scanners for medical applications, marking the company's first foray into the healthcare industry.
They also pointed to a new “all-in-one 3D scanner” that has been under development since the end of last year.
This will include "features that users have never seen before," providing "more advanced technology and greater 3D scanning possibilities."
