[3D Printing Applications] A new office companion: 3D printing minions have arrived!

There are many potted plants in 3DMart's office. Recently, we gave them new clothes to add fun to the office. The first one we chose was the hairless and cute Minions!
This time I used Ultimaker 3 , which is mainly PLA with a super little helper PVA water-soluble support; after 2 days and 17 hours of printing, I took it for a bath!



Here's a picture of a little soldier with a runny nose halfway through a bath. PVA water-soluble support is hard and brittle after printing, but it will slowly melt and completely dissolve in water, just like in the picture.



After cleaning, let's take a look at the finished 3D printing . The naked Minions are also very beautiful to use directly.





Next comes the big project of repotting the plant. You can see that the plant on the left looks rather ugly; we're about to transplant it into the cute Minions' pot and give them hair. First, add some fresh soil, mixing in some of the old soil. Then, place the plant's roots along with some of the soil into the pot.





Let's first take a look at the naked Minions after they've been repotted. They look much better than the original potted plants. But that's not enough. We're going to use acrylic paint to dress up the Minions!



Since FDM 3D printing still has some texture, you need to apply several layers of acrylic paint. If you want to try it, remember that it will look better if you let one layer of paint dry before applying another. Slow and steady wins the race, so don't be impatient!





Compared to a simple 3D print , the colored Minions look much more vibrant. We encourage you to print your favorite characters and give it a try!
