The most comprehensive guide x Real-world testing results of 9 materials

Snapmaker Ray: A powerful tool designed specifically for creators

In August 2023, Snapmaker launched the Snapmaker Ray 20W and 40W laser engraving and cutting machines equipped with air assist. With so many engraving and cutting machines on the market, what makes the Ray stand out? What are the speed and effects of the 40W high power? Whatever your questions, this article will provide the most detailed explanation! (Of course, there may be other more in-depth parts you'd like to understand; after reading this article, click "Contact Us" at the bottom to resolve any doubts you may have!!)

What is a laser engraving and cutting machine?

Before introducing the Ray machine, let me explain its working principle. A laser engraving machine uses high-powered laser light, focused on the object to be engraved, causing the object to reach its melting point in a localized area. This softens and cuts the object, and high-pressure airflow blows away the waste gases produced during the melting or vaporization process, achieving a more precise cutting effect than traditional die-cutting . Compared to traditional hand engraving methods, laser engraving can produce remarkably fine results, rivaling the craftsmanship of hand engraving.

Laser engraving can be applied to a variety of materials, such as metal, wood, and acrylic. Products engraved and cut using laser engraving machines are exquisite and free of burrs. Its time-saving and labor-saving characteristics bring convenience to many industries, greatly improving work efficiency and saving costs! This is why more and more industries are now in high demand for this technology.

📚 Quick Guide

There is a faster and simpler way to get the wire in: using the bent part of an H3 hex wrench.

Guide Example

Insert the wire into the bottom profile connector – then into the X-axis – and out through the top connector.

This also means that the pin connectors need to be kept flush and free from pressure, so that there is no need to worry about the connectors on the LED strip bending or even breaking as the cable moves forward.

We installed a fan to rotate it another 90°, giving us more time to guide it along the X-axis.
Guide Example – Between X-axis and Wire Fixture
The wire enters the top connector, passes through the X-axis, and then exits through the bottom connector.

* Pay attention to the yellow guide wires on the connector cable and be aware of their placement in the cable clamp to provide sufficient space for module movement.

Then, some finely cut finished products are shown:

As can be seen from the above, even the finest lines can be perfectly cut. The cutting skills of Snapmaker Ray are truly extraordinary!

After reviewing the cutting test, let's take a look at Ray's carving results!

The following are the actual test results from SanDiMa:

Complete! An initial adjustment error caused some imperfections in the "0," but it didn't affect the fineness of the other numbers and lines! Let's take a look at some other different engraved finished products:

304 Stainless Steel Sheet

What is 304? 304 stainless steel is a food-grade stainless steel with good corrosion resistance, is sturdy and durable , and has the widest range of applications , including industrial, furniture and decoration, food and medical industries.

When lasers are applied to stainless steel sheets, different speeds and power levels cause oxidation, thus allowing for the engraving of different colors!

Ceramic

Cement

Anodized aluminum

This refers to all aluminum or aluminum alloys that have undergone an anodizing process. After anodizing, it is equivalent to having an additional coating, which can effectively isolate the external environment as a "protective layer," thus possessing characteristics such as anti-oxidation, anti-corrosion, anti-ultraviolet, strong weather resistance, no discoloration, no powdering, no peeling, and durability.

Walnut wood

Leather

Cork

It is clear that the Snapmaker Ray's engraving capabilities are not to be underestimated! It can engrave exquisite patterns on both soft and hard materials!

The Snapmaker Ray features high-power laser cutting and engraving modules that deliver the highest quality finished products regardless of material thickness, helping you complete your work quickly and easily. It also offers 20W and 40W power options, as well as a rotating axis , to suit your different needs.
