[3D Scanner] EinScan Pro+ User Guide

The **EinScan Pro+** from SHINING 3D is the highest performance 3D scanner in the EinScan series. It is lightweight, compact, portable, and extremely easy to operate. Here, we introduce basic usage through several easy-to-understand videos.




1. Setup

Hardware Setup: Attaching the Color Texture Camera

First, attach the texture camera.

Begin by opening the cover next to the "EinScan Pro" logo on the EinScan Pro main unit. This cover is completely sealed and different from other vents.

Insert the texture camera's fixing screw into the screw hole on the main unit. Align the camera with the unit, then insert the included hex wrench into the screw head and tighten it securely.

Next, connect the camera cable to the "Camera" port on the scanner unit. Ensure the red mark on the connector faces upward and align the connector's protrusion with the groove on the unit before inserting.

To remove the connector, grasp the knurled (anti-slip) part of the connector and pull it out.

Cable Connection

Connect the scanner unit, power cable, and AC adapter, then plug the power connector into the scanner.

Next, connect the USB cable to the interface and then to the computer you are using.

Connect the turntable's power cable and AC adapter, then connect the turntable to the computer.

Set up the tripod, rotating the legs to adjust the height. Once the height is determined, rotate clockwise to secure it firmly.

Next, attach the camera head to the tripod and adjust the angle. Finally, mount the EinScan Pro+ unit onto the tripod, and the setup is complete.

2. Calibration


Calibration

After software installation, perform calibration before the first scan. Prepare the included calibration board and board stand, and ensure the scanner is properly connected.

Launch the software and click **"Calibrate"**.

Following the on-screen instructions, hold the scanner so the color camera faces you, and position the calibration board as instructed by the software.

Next, press the **"Start" button on the scanner to begin capturing. When capturing begins, "Capture Status" on the software will turn "ON"**.

Ensure the crosshair projected from the scanner is correctly displayed within the white frame of the calibration board.

Then, move the scanner up and down at a steady pace. Continue this operation until all distance markers turn green.

The software will automatically switch to the next measurement position, showing the direction to move. Follow the on-screen instructions to move the scanner and repeat the same operation.

For camera calibration, data is acquired at a total of five different positions. Once all five positions have been captured, the software automatically calculates the calibration.

HD Calibration

After camera calibration, flip the calibration board over, placing the white side up on a flat table. Hold the scanner so the color camera faces you.

Press the **"Start" button on the scanner to begin capturing, and the software's "Capture Status" will turn "ON"**.

Slowly move the scanner up and down until all the boxes on the right side of the screen turn green.

At this time, ensure all projected lines stay within the white calibration board.

Once all boxes turn green, the software automatically performs the calculation.

White Balance Adjustment

Place the white side of the calibration board up on a table.

Press the **"ON"** button to start capturing and move the scanner up and down. When the scanner reaches a distance that matches the blue frame on the right, white balance adjustment is complete.

Upon successful white balance adjustment, the software will display a completion message and automatically close the screen.


3. Auto Scan


Auto Scan

Mount the scanner on a tripod and adjust the tripod's height and angle.

In the software, select **"Fixed Scan," then select "Auto Scan"**. Specify a save folder and create a new project.

Adjust the angle and distance between the scanner and the object.

Note:
The scanner should be positioned at an appropriate angle to the object. If the angle is not appropriate, markers may be hidden by the object, preventing proper data acquisition even when the turntable rotates, which can affect scan results.

If the distance between the scanner and the object is appropriate, a clear crosshair projection will appear on the object.

Adjust the **exposure** at the bottom of the preview screen to clearly see the object.

Once settings are complete, click the **"Start"** button to begin scanning.

If the entire object cannot be acquired in one scan, change the object's orientation and scan again. Subsequent scan data will be automatically aligned.

If automatic alignment fails, manual alignment is possible. Click **"Align"** and select three common points between the two scan data sets while holding down the Shift key to align the data.

The software's sidebar includes an **"Undo"** function, allowing you to cancel the last performed scan.

It also features editing functions. By selecting an area with the left mouse button while holding down the Shift key, you can perform the following operations:

Delete selected part
Redo/Undo
Invert selection
Deselect
Hide texture

Continue scanning the necessary parts, and once data acquisition is complete, select the **"Mesh Generation"** tool.

Selecting the second option generates a mesh that retains holes (openings) from the scan.
Selecting the first option automatically complements holes in the software, generating a closed (solid) model.

Finally, select the desired file format and save the data.

4. Free Scan


Free Scan Mode

Launch the software, select **"Fixed Scan," then click "Free Scan"**.

Create a new project or load an existing project created in turntable scan mode or free scan mode.

Adjust the **exposure** at the bottom of the preview screen. The method for checking the appropriate distance between the scanner and the object is the same as for turntable scanning.

Once settings are complete, click **"Start"** to begin scanning.

During scanning, you can continue scanning while moving the scanner or the object. Ensure that there is at least approximately 1/3 overlap with the previous scan data.

In free scan mode, data can be aligned using either **Marker Alignment or Feature Alignment**.

If the object has few features suitable for alignment, attach **marker stickers (target markers)** to the object before scanning.

5. Handheld HD Scan


Handheld HD Scan

Select the **"Handheld HD Scan"** mode and create a new project or open an existing project.

Select the scan accuracy according to your needs. Generally, **"Medium (Med)" or "Low"** settings are recommended.

Attach **marker stickers (target markers)** to the surface of the object.

Before starting the scan, you can adjust the brightness (exposure) in the software. Alternatively, press the **"Start" button on the scanner unit and adjust the brightness with the "+" or "-" buttons. Press the "Start"** button again to exit brightness adjustment mode. This operation can also be performed during scanning.

Check the adjustment results in the preview screen and ensure the markers and projection lines are clearly visible. To minimize the influence of ambient light, it is recommended to use a dark background whenever possible.

When ready, press the **"Start"** button on the scanner unit to begin scanning.

If tracking is lost during scanning, return to the already scanned position and resume tracking. If the cause is insufficient markers, add more marker stickers as needed.

Checking Scan Distance

An indicator on the left side of the software screen shows the distance between the scanner and the object.

Red: Too close.
Blue: Too far.
Green: Appropriate distance.

The scanner unit also has similar indicator lights, with the following meanings:

Red: Too close.
Blue: Too far.
Green: Appropriate distance.

Scan the object at a consistent speed.

Once the scan is complete, click the **"Finish"** button in the software.

The software includes simple editing functions. By selecting an area with the left mouse button while holding down the Shift key, you can perform the following operations:

Delete selected area
Redo/Undo operation
Invert selection
Deselect

After editing, click **"Generate Mesh"** and choose whether to generate a closed mesh (with holes filled).

6. Handheld Rapid Scan


Handheld Rapid Scan Mode

From the available scan modes, select **"Handheld Rapid Scan"** and create a new project or open an existing project.

Select the scan accuracy and **texture (color)** settings according to your needs.

Refer to the "Handheld HD Scan" instructions for adjusting brightness (exposure).

Once settings are complete, press the **"Start"** button to begin scanning.

During scanning, scan the object by moving the scanner smoothly at a consistent speed.

If **"Tracking Lost"** appears during scanning, return to the already scanned area and continue scanning for a few seconds. Once tracking automatically resumes, you can continue scanning.

After completing the scan, perform edits such as deleting unnecessary data, then execute **"Generate Mesh"**.

Finally, select the required file format and save the scan data.
