[3D Printing] Ultimaker and MakerBot: A New Chapter Begins with a Century-Long Reconciliation? Stratasys Makes Further Investment!

Starting May 12, 2022, MakerBot and Ultimaker , two leading companies in the desktop 3D printing industry, announced that they have entered into a business merger agreement to accelerate the expansion of the additive manufacturing market by providing a full range of desktop 3D printing solutions, including hardware, software and materials.

(MakerBot Method X is small in size, has a large capacity, and is compatible with a variety of 3D printing filaments . Its applications span aerospace, automotive, education, and other fields.)

With existing investment firms NPM Capital and Stratasys planning to invest approximately NT$1.8 billion, the new company will be jointly led by Nadav Goshen, the current CEO of MakerBot, and Jürgen von Hollen, the current CEO of Ultimaker , with the latter serving as co-CEO. Nadav will manage operations and R&D, while Jürgen will manage business responsibilities.

Ultimaker's current CEO, Jürgen, stated, "When we entered the light industrial sector, we found that the market was not yet saturated and had significant room for growth. Once the companies merge, we will be well-positioned to secure a place in it." MakerBot's current CEO, Nadav, agreed, adding, "Future product prices are likely to fall between NT$440,000 and NT$590,000. We will develop powerful, robust, and reusable 3D printers whose performance will far surpass current products. Positioning the products effectively will be our next mission."

(CALLUM, a supercar design company, is using the Makerbot METHOD X 3D printer to manufacture parts for a limited edition of 25 Aston Martin supercars worldwide. Design Director Ian Callum believes that 3D printing breaks through the boundaries of automotive design.)

"This merger marks a significant milestone for both Ultimaker and MakerBot, and innovation and growth will be crucial for bringing desktop 3D printing from a professional technology to mainstream commercial applications. The new company will leverage its combined global footprint to expand sales and operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region," said Jürgen, the current CEO of Ultimaker.

"Advanced technological innovation is crucial for the ease of use of professional 3D printing solutions . The merger allows us to utilize additional funding to accelerate the development of more advanced solutions, providing customers with a broad portfolio of hardware and software solutions and application services to a wide range of clients," said current CEO Nadav. Headquarters will be simultaneously located in the Netherlands and New York. The merger is still under review and is currently expected to be completed in the second or third quarter of 2022. Let's continue to look forward to new developments in 3D printing hardware and software.
