MUSE laser processing machines have a wide range of applications, with wood panels being the most common material used. Through the cross-shaped design of the bentwood structure, the stress on the wood panel can be changed by the direction of bending, allowing the hard wood panel to bend freely and not easily break without processing. Searching "Living Hinge" online will reveal a wide variety of different designs, allowing wood materials to be processed into a wider range of finished products.
(The image is from one of the Living Hinge image structures on the internet.)At the last 3D printing exhibition, some eagle-eyed viewers may have already spotted this flexible folding book cover. Haven't been to the 3D printing exhibition yet? No problem! This time, we'll reveal its creation process and show you how to test if this ideal structure is feasible. First, you can draw the line art yourself in Adobe Illustrator (AI) vector software and save it as a PDF file. You can also create it using Paint or a regular image and then convert it to PDF, but vector files offer the most accurate line quality in terms of size and precision!
By using the free online software RetinaEngrave v3.0, which is exclusive to MUSE laser processing machines , you can see a visual representation of the content to be cut or engraved. The operation and parameter adjustments are very simple. On the right, you can adjust the laser power, speed, and size, etc., while on the left, you can see the layers to which different pattern blocks belong. For example, the content of the engraved image and the edges to be cut will be on different layers, etc., or you can modify the advanced settings yourself.
Pressing the preview function will show you the maximum area the laser head will cut before it runs through the empty space. After placing the material in, you can start carving! As shown in the animation below, the pattern will gradually emerge. This pattern size can be completed in about ten minutes, which is very fast!
The widest side of the MUSE laser processing machine is less than one meter, and the base plate can be removed to allow for unlimited expansion of the cutting material underneath (e.g., placing a door panel or guitar on it for engraving). Compared to general industrial models, it is very compact and has excellent performance. The color touch screen on the right makes operation easier.
The cut edges are very clean and clear. When you take out the finished book cover, you can easily press it open. You can see from the movement that the bending part has already taken effect. The right side of the book cover even fell off by itself!
I'll show you how to actually turn the pages. You can bend it with just one hand. The original resistance of the wooden board almost disappears. After using the straps to pass through the holes in the base, the custom book cover is immediately completed. It only takes about ten minutes in total.
To achieve a more retro or vintage feel, you can adjust the laser power and speed of the MUSE laser to produce various laser processing effects.
