Many customers want to make their product samples look more realistic, or they want to express their own designed models with a metallic texture.
Previously, creating pure metal models was quite costly and time-consuming, but now there's a new option!!
After 3D printing, plating can be applied to recreate a texture just like real metal! Let's take a look at the results!!!![]()

Do you remember the Xbox controller made with the DWS - XFAB that we introduced in a previous article?
(Material : DWS XFAB Resin - Invicta 915 (ABS-like))
(Layer thickness : 0.1mm)
Models printed with stereolithography have an excellent surface finish, requiring very little additional post-processing, and can be painted or plated directly.
Even with FDM, a smooth surface can be achieved by applying putty and sanding.
The glossy finish after silver plating gives the object an even more futuristic look. It also adds weight, enhancing the tactile feel when held!
The strong reflection allows it to be used like a mirror. No worries if mom approaches from behind during a game! (laughs)
There is a very wide variety of metals that can be plated, and among them, "zinc" offers the most variations. After plating, it becomes a very beautiful silvery white, and by applying a transparent colored coating on top, various metallic colors can be reproduced.
For the back panel of this controller, we applied a clear yellow coating to create a gold-like texture. It's a lot of fun because you can freely enjoy your favorite colors!
