[3D Printing News] Ultimaker Cura 3.1 beta version released.
Since the release of Ultimaker Cura 3.0 , we have been working with our community to create Ultimaker Cura 3.1, and now we are ready to release the beta version.
This new update brings together exciting new features, bug fixes, and many more improvements.
Please note: We have fully tested this beta version, and it offers great features and improvements. However, the beta is still in the testing phase, which means we cannot guarantee the same printing reliability as the stable version. If you are working on an important project, we strongly recommend that you use the latest stable version of Ultimaker Cura.
emphasize
Layers view. View the printing strategy of the live simulation in the Layers view.
Quick camera controls. Use the buttons in the toolbar to quickly and easily reposition the camera view.
Increase speed. Faster response times - reduce processing time, or choose a printer or file.
Run. Control your Ultimaker 2+ screen via USB.
Enhanced UI
Switching between files is faster. Copying and deleting files is now much quicker than in previous versions.
Switching printers is faster now. Printers can now be removed instantly. No more slow-responding screens.
Processing speed is faster. Standard calculations are 5-10% faster when loading models and slices .
Faster camera control. New buttons have been added to the surface for quick repositioning of the camera view.
From left to right: Preset view, front view, top view, left view, and right view
Layer view. The existing layer view has been updated to show all paths within the layers.
This makes it easy to test CuraEngine functionality and provides a better view of the order of each print layer.
Press the play button below the Layers options slider to watch the print animation simulation.
The virtual nozzle displays the printing strategy for each print job.
Jogging . Jogging allows the print head to be moved under on-screen control. When connected via USB, the Ultimaker 2+ and other RepRap printers can now be fully controlled via the Ultimaker Cura. Each axis can be operated in 0.1, 1, 10, and 100 mm increments.
When connected via USB, the X, Y, and Z axes can now be controlled via the Ultimaker Cura.
Loading large models . Loading large /detailed models and slicing them at high resolution may impact the performance of previous versions of Ultimaker Cura.
A new feature has been added that unloads the layer view when switching to solid mode, speeding up Ultimaker Cura backups without losing data.
G-code/layer view information.
Drafts folder . Drafts are now available in the Ultimaker Cura configuration folder. This folder can load post-processing plugin drafts, which will automatically appear in Ultimaker Cura.
Optimize the workflow for reporting issues . Issue reports are generated automatically, allowing users to easily send descriptions to developers when issues occur.
New and improved slicing functionality
Start the floating model. In previous versions, when support was disabled, the model was placed on the print platform.
When the setting is enabled, the model now floats (even in situations where it is impossible to print).
This can be used to stack individual models together.
Slice tolerance. New settings affecting the intersections will impact the dimensional accuracy of the diagonal surface.
Users can choose from the following behaviors: "Inclusivity", "Narrower Gap", "Exclusivity", "Wideer Gap", and "Middle" to make the process as fast as possible.
When using the "middle" setting, the first layer will be raised by half its height to compensate for the increased layer thickness. This can be used in applications requiring tolerances, such as screw holes.
Optimized zigzag shape. The zigzag pattern is now printed more consistently. The lines now have a 5-micron tolerance, and they print in any direction, resulting in longer connecting lines.
The aligned Z-joint interior wall is moved. The interior wall is moved to align with the Z-joint. This reduces the number of moves and unnecessary seams.
Relative positioning of the fill pattern. The fill pattern is now positioned relative to the center of the loaded model. The fill position is the same whenever the model is loaded.
Offsets can be applied to control the fill more precisely, and preferences or intensity can be adjusted.
Resolution. Users can specify the minimum allowed distance between two points in G-code to create polygons with lower or higher resolutions.
Change to Custom Mode. If the settings are modified in the recommended mode within Custom Mode, a reset icon will appear to notify the user. Clicking the icon will show that changes have been made, and then restore the default settings.
Fix bugs
We have added the following bug fixes: incorrect layer numbering when switching between solid and layer modes, errors in the Ultimaker Cura engine on some models, uninstallation of previous versions of Cura on Windows platforms, and fixes for displaying visible settings.
Are you ready?
We would like to thank all the contributors, and especially fieldOfView, ahoeben, smartavionics, and BagelOrb.
We are accelerating the development of a stable version of Ultimaker Cura 3.1, where we have more features planned.
