Development Background
Thanks to the SLS Sinterit Lisa printer, ELECTOR was able to create test prototypes of its voting machine more quickly and easily. The final product is now being used in various government agency voting processes, oversight committee meetings, and for management testing and surveys during lectures and conferences. ELECTOR specifically developed a wireless voting system for casting votes, automatically counting votes, and instantly displaying the results in charts. From a design perspective, the company wanted a device that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing, so they decided to use the Sinterit Lisa to create 3D-printed prototypes to expedite and improve the voting machine design.
Challenges faced
"Our goal is to create the best physical effect for handheld voting machines; we hope to incorporate our years of experience in conceiving, modifying, and using components into the production process, while maintaining low cost and a compact size. In the past, we have made time-consuming adjustments, cutting, drilling, and sealing improvements to the shell modules available on the market; however, the results still lacked ergonomics and aesthetic design. Before we decide to develop a new project, we find it difficult to grasp certain design variables, such as: proportions and shape, the feel in the hand, the installation position and size of components such as labels and logos." 
Significantly reducing production time and user-friendly operation are also important. We have designed several special structures and latches on the casing to allow our IC board, keyboard, battery, casing, LEDs , etc. to be connected together. 

Depending on the production scale, we must use plastic injection molding and develop molds; however, considering the very high development costs, we must use a cheaper technology to repeatedly revise the prototype design before finalization.

From proposal to product
First, a 3D model of the new proposal was created, and multiple design replacements and modifications were made on the computer. Then, the 3D printing stage was entered, and the real-world feedback from testers was collected. ELECTOR later used Sinterit Lisa for four additional 3D prints to improve design details. Only when they were satisfied with the shape and structure of the new casing did they proceed to create the mold.
Because 3D printing can create and refine prototypes in hours, it can significantly shorten the time required for the design, testing, and development phases. Using SLS Sinterit 3D printing to quickly create prototypes allows ELECTOR to make multiple modifications in a shorter time, thus enabling them to thoroughly test products while also shortening time to market.
Using Sinterit Lisa for 3D printing allowed them to fully understand the appearance and performance of their product before investing in it. This resulted in several features for the voting machine: a more user-friendly appearance and operation, a faster and easier production process, flexible battery covers produced simultaneously with the casing in a single mold, the ability to stack multiple products, and label recesses on the side of the casing.
