[3D Printing Application] Tested and working! Brake caliper metal mold finished product!

Our first test is here again! Not only Chunghwa Telecom, but also 3DMart is leading the way for you. Do you remember the last test of the large 1:1 brake caliper of the Ultimaker S5 ?

Following our previous success, we thoughtfully designed the actual 3D printing mold opening process for our clients. This time, we used PolyCast for printing. This material is specially designed for metal investment casting (lost-wax casting). It can be used with a Polysher alcohol polisher ( latest offer : get a free roll of Polysmooth filament with purchases made before August 10th!), and it can be completely melted in a plaster mold to create the mold cavity before metal pouring.

Now let's reveal the actual situation! One of the advantages of Ultimaker S5's large-size printing is that it can directly print PVA support material and body, which can be completed in one printing, saving a lot of time. Printing the body takes about four days.



After the support is dissolved in water, the main body is ready before casting!







Close-up photos were taken to allow everyone to examine the details. You can see that apart from the slight 3D printing texture, the holes are printed quite completely and with precise shapes.



We sent the 3D-printed PolyCast model to the manufacturer, and the metal model arrived a few days later!
Holding a physical metal model in your hand feels completely different; it's heavy and substantial! The boss spared no expense to prioritize testing for everyone, which is truly commendable!




This isn't Darth Vader from Star Wars, but its power is just as great! From 3D printing to a usable 1:1 all -metal mold, there's no need for expensive mold-making fees or the time cost of back-and-forth modifications; at this stage, all that's needed is to go into CNC for detailed refinement, and the prototype is complete—a truly exciting result!



The finished metal model is very beautiful, with all the details showing, and the round hole in the photo is also very clear and complete.



Don't doubt your eyes! You can get a little closer!



Placing two twins side by side, from 3D printing to metal casting, realistically presents the process before your eyes. Using this model for rapid prototyping would be a major breakthrough for many industrial processes!
