3D printed spinal models can be utilized for surgical planning. Traditionally, pre-surgical preparations were based on X-ray images, but using 3D printed bone models allows for a 1:1 scale reproduction of the patient's affected area. This model enables doctors to observe the surgical site more clearly and even conduct actual surgical simulations, leading to optimal surgical planning and improvements in accuracy and success rates.


This was printed with an Ultimaker 3. The Ultimaker 3 features dual nozzles, using PLA material in one nozzle and water-soluble PVA support material in the other, enabling such precise 3D printed bone models.
Incidentally, many medical institutions use Ultimaker PLA Pearl White. This color and texture closely resemble bone, making it suitable for medical models.
