[3D Printing Application] Live Coverage! 3D Printing of a 1:1 Extra-Large Car Headlight Mount!

Another finished product print sharing session! After the last large-size 1:1 car brake caliper demonstration, we were commissioned by a client to make a 1:1 car headlight mount sample; this time, we used the Ultimaker S5 to disassemble it into two parts and assemble them, and finally completed it successfully!
Keen-eyed fans may have noticed that it made a surprise appearance at the 3D Printing Exhibition in early September! Now let's take a look at its creation process!

Even when divided into two parts, this size was more challenging than previous brake calipers . We used the same Ultimaker S5 and PLA , along with the super-helper PVA water-soluble support, to complete it. After five days of printing, the height, as you can see in the photos, almost reaches the top of the 3D printer.



To provide a faithful presentation to our customers, we opened the door of the Ultimaker S5 and took photos from different angles before disassembling it. Previously, all Ultimaker 3D printers had an open front design. The addition of a magnetic door panel to the Ultimaker S5 helps maintain temperature and isolate environmental changes, thus reducing warping.





The Ultimaker S5 's dual-nozzle system is very convenient to use with PVA water-soluble support, which is our most frequently used printing method. It saves the trouble of post-processing on complex samples with interlocking designs like this, and you don't have to worry about damaging the model itself during the process.



After about two days, the PVA had completely dissolved. We took photos from various angles so that everyone could see the details clearly. The interlocking joints and the concave and convex parts of the structure were very precise and complete. The application of PVA has indeed brought great results. Our FDM printing service uses the Ultimaker 3D printer to present high-quality 3D printing to customers.







Finally, we joined the two large components together and it was finished. We've also included a scale so everyone can see just how big it is.
