[3D Printing Application] "Heart Lock Box" Welcomes Christmas! Embrace the romance of engineers!

Jingle bells! Jingle bells! December is almost here, time to ring the alarm bells for your wallet! Choosing a Christmas gift is so hard! Besides being edible, portable, and photogenic, it also needs to be unique and not a dud. A 3D-printed heart-shaped lock box—only you can open my heart and deliver a romantic gift exclusively for an engineer!

First, let's take a look at the Christmas gift we're sharing today. Besides the gift box itself, the ribbon can rotate freely and it even has a real locking function! Be sure to keep the key safe, or you won't be able to open it!



For this 3D printing using the Ultimaker S5 , we were able to utilize its dual printhead system. In addition to the small latch structure that supports the print cartridge with water-soluble ink, the Ultimaker S5 also boasts high-precision 3D printing quality, precisely preserving a small space in the center of the ribbon. Therefore, we also paired it with a supportless rotating structure, allowing the ribbon to be freely adjusted to the desired angle.



All the parts together take about 7 hours to 3D print . Normally we would put them in water and they would dissolve perfectly. However, because the structure is very small this time, the support came off cleanly with a single pull.



The parts that need to be assembled are: box body, box lid, two ribbons per set, and one set of locking parts.



First, interlock the locked parts together as shown in the picture below, and then test the smoothness of rotation.



Next, snap it onto the protruding latch at the bottom of the box. It looks like a little person with a built-in antenna. The locking mechanism is complete. It's that simple!



Next, put in anything you want to give to the recipient, such as chocolate or dried flowers.



The ribbon has two parts. Align the keyholes together and put the first layer of ribbon on. Put the decorative part on the outermost layer. That's it!





For an even more sophisticated version, you can place a ring, earrings, necklace, or banknotes at the bottom first, so that your recipient receives a big surprise after eating the chocolates on top, perfectly showcasing your thoughtful gesture.
