Bambu Lab has given its classic 3D printer, the P1S, a complete upgrade and evolution.
When the P1 series was first released, it was positioned between the entry-level A1 and the higher-end X1 Carbon.
With the H2D becoming Bambu Lab's high-end 3D printer, the replacement of mid-range models is a natural progression.
Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo is a four-color printing device that combines many advantages of the same series of products at an affordable price.
It uses the X1's color touchscreen and the A1's replaceable nozzles—more accurately, an upgraded version of the H2's screen and nozzles.
In addition, it features a superior camera, USB interface, upgraded cooling system, AI monitoring capabilities, and comes standard with the new AMS 2 Pro .
Like the P1S, it has everything you need, but it omits some high-end features.
This printer retains Bambu Lab's traditional 256 cubic millimeter print volume, but it lacks a laser, dual nozzles, fancy air hoods, and of course, radar.
Most importantly, it doesn't need these features at all.
Unboxing
The Bambu Lab P2S kit includes everything needed for printer setup, as well as some extra parts and printer maintenance tools.
The P2S memory comes pre-installed with some test models, including a scraper, which you can print out and assemble using the parts provided in the toolbox.
If you need to use a USB to shoot time-lapse video, please note that it does not include a USB drive.
The package includes a paper-based introductory guide and instructions on how to access the slicing software and mobile applications.
A QR code is printed on the inside flap of the packaging box; scanning it will allow you to watch an unboxing video.
New design of P2S
The most noticeable improvement in the P2S is the touchscreen, which is the same as the high-end H2 series.
The P2S tool head also borrows from the design of the H2 series, using the same steel-tipped A1 nozzle—but it is not a true A1 nozzle.
This new nozzle looks very similar to the detachable A1 nozzle, also using clips and magnets for fixation.
P2 and H2 nozzles have higher flow rates to match their faster Core XY machine tools.
It's great to see that the P2S uses this nozzle because it's easier to disassemble, making troubleshooting or size replacement easier.
The P2S also features a brand-new active airflow system, which addresses a common pain point: the cabin door is open when printing PLA.
This airflow system delivers cooler indoor air to auxiliary cooling fans on the side walls, reducing nozzle clogging or printhead sagging.
Although the P2S does not have an active heating function, it can complete all heating work by relying on the heated bed heater.
To simplify operation, it closes the internal baffle and only exhausts air from the chamber through a carbon filter.
The P2S also adds a USB port, which is a small detail but very significant.
With a USB interface, users can easily transfer files without needing a network connection, whereas the previous micro SD card was more cumbersome in this regard.
In addition, P2S also stores time-lapse videos in this interface.
The camera has also been upgraded to a 1080p high frame rate model, and with enhanced cavity illumination, the imaging effect has been significantly improved.
In addition, the camera is also part of a new AI computer monitoring system that ensures the installed printing platform is consistent with the slicing software settings and monitors whether oil droplets and printing clumps appear at the nozzles.
Nozzle pressure is measured by an eddy current sensor, and the machine automatically adjusts the flow rate.
The flow rate is also supported by a brand-new extrusion system, with a permanent magnet synchronous motor servo mechanism that can provide a maximum extrusion force of up to 8.5 kg, which is about 70% higher than the old system.
The printer also monitors the system's operation and detects wear and tear or blockages in consumables.
By incorporating a tangling sensor in the consumables hub, P2S can effectively prevent printing failures.
The rest of the printer is basically the same: a print volume of 256 cubic millimeters, and a fast, high-precision motion system.
If this is your first time using Core XY, the motion system uses belt drive to synchronize the X and Y axes, resulting in smoother and faster printing.
The printhead remains at the top of the machine, while the print platform descends slowly. Combined with shock-absorbing input molding technology, this results in an extremely smooth, high-quality print.
The printer's highly sensitive automatic leveling system ensures perfect first-layer printing.
No Z-axis height adjustment is required. After a few minutes of automatic calibration, the printer will be operating normally.
AMS 2 Pro
The P2S Combo comes standard with the new AMS 2 Pro, a four-color automatic consumables system.
This new AMS can also function as a wire dryer, and its active ventilation design keeps humidity low when the lid is closed.
Since the dryer does not operate during the printing process, desiccant packets are still needed to prevent moisture.
The AMS 2 Pro's cabling conduits are now exposed, making maintenance easier.
This makes it easier to remove any wire fragments that may have broken inside the device.
Mid-range models packed with the latest technology
Bambu Lab continues to innovate its Core XY printers to remain competitive in a highly competitive market.
What's most impressive is that Bambu has added so many new features to the P2S while keeping the price so close to that of the first-generation P1S.
It's a good choice for users who want to upgrade their 3D printing experience.
It is simple to set up and easy to use, making it suitable as a beginner's first printer or as the farm's tenth printer.
