For NISSAN's 3D printing plant, the team specifically chose the BCN3D 3D printer , which features the unique IDEX (Independent Dual Extruders) technology. The two printhead systems are completely separate and can move independently. When using IDEX technology for 3D printing , you can choose between "copy" and "mirror" modes. The two printheads will work simultaneously, achieving double the efficiency and productivity in the same amount of time!
Before using 3D printing technology , NISSAN outsourced all prototypes and specific fixtures to traditional machinery manufacturers for production. The back-and-forth communication and adjustments required a lot of time and money. In addition, the limited delivery time hindered the team's production process. In the past, it took "a week" of collaboration from design to production. The team found that after using 3D printing technology , the delivery time could be shortened to "one day". In terms of cost, the previous method of using CNC drilling was about 20 times more expensive than 3D printing !
After witnessing the production value of the BCN3D 3D printer , the team acquired a BCN3D Sigmax 3D printer and developed it into a production factory for the employees. With the BCN3D independent dual printhead system (IDEX) , the team's production efficiency was successfully doubled, and stable results were maintained during long production processes.
Windshield measuring instrument
NISSAN used a BCN3D 3D printer to create an "automotive windshield measuring tool." This tool ensures the correct distance between the car's A-pillar and the windshield. When the gauge is fixed to the car part, it holds one side, and when reversed, it holds the other side, thus ensuring accuracy and speeding up the fixing process each time. The automotive windshield measuring tool measures 100 x 120 x 80mm and is made of durable TPU material. The cost was NT$260, and the total production time was 14 hours.
• Truck drilling rig position indicator
Next, this tool will consist of 5 interconnected parts, measuring 1000 x 400 x 15mm. It is the largest 3D printing tool ever made by NISSAN. Each part of this positioning tool takes an average of 15 hours to print and is made of ABS material, costing NT$700. Its main function is to serve as an indicator of the drilling rig position, maintain consistency in the assembly process of each vehicle, and allow operators to easily and conveniently align the position.
Car license plate alignment tool
As shown in the picture below, this tool has both positioning and fixing functions. The operator can accurately align the car model nameplate each time, and two gauges are installed between the rear panel and the trunk lid to ensure the nameplate is always positioned in the same place. The user attaches it to a thin metal sheet on the car, measuring 300 × 80 x 3mm. Because the UV LED strip on the bottom of the car is cured with a special adhesive, the letters can be easily welded to the car body. This part is made of ABS material, took a total of 12 hours to complete, and cost NT$115.
