This 3-digit counter is made entirely of PLA resin. No metal springs, screws, or rubber bands are used.
Since this counter achieves all its mechanical movements solely with precisely fabricated resin parts, it also serves as a unique test model to evaluate the performance of 3D printers.
The core of this counter is a lever mechanism. Each pull of the lever rotates the number wheel by 36 degrees, advancing it by one-tenth of a rotation. An integrated ratchet mechanism ensures precise operation. Additionally, a resin spring built into the lever automatically returns it to its initial position after operation.
The carry-over mechanism between each number wheel is also very ingenious. When the ones digit reaches 9, two teeth engage with the tens digit wheel, advancing it by one. The same mechanism is used for carrying over from the tens to the hundreds digit.
Furthermore, the reset mechanism is cleverly designed; by pushing and rotating a shaft, all wheels can be simultaneously returned to 0.
