[Laser Engraving] Unboxing and Review of the LaserPecker 5 High-Speed Dual Laser Engraver

LaserPecker is known for its series of portable laser engravers, and they have now announced their latest model equipped with dual lasers: the LaserPecker LP5.
The LP5
seamlessly integrates a 20W diode laser and a 20W fiber laser. Designed for artists and hobbyists who want to perform metal cutting, engraving, and marking with high precision, it consolidates these capabilities into a single device.

LP5 Setup
Setting up the LP5 is relatively simple. First, secure the electric stand to the base plate using the provided screws.
Next, mount the LP5 main unit onto the stand.
Then, install the protective cover. In some cases, you may need to open and lift the laser to ensure there is enough space for installation.
Once the setup is complete, use one of the included cables to connect the fan cable to the back of the laser engraver, and connect the laser to the electric stand.

– Safety Key. Finally, insert one of the USB safety keys to enable the laser.
The LaserPecker unit comes with two keys in case one is lost. We recommend keeping them in a safe place.

Installing the Slide Extension Kit and Rotary Axis Stand

For the Slide Extension Kit, attach the two cutting plates to the base unit.
Once ready, install the extension kit and connect it to the back of the laser unit using the included USB cable.

For the Rotary Axis Stand, fix the rotary unit to the base plate using the provided screws.
Attach the chucks or stud components according to your task, then slide the tailstock onto the rail and secure it. You are now ready to begin.

LP5 Connectivity
Overall, the LP5 setup is very easy and fast.
You can connect to a PC via USB cable or use the mobile app to configure Wi-Fi.
By using the Wi-Fi connection, you can connect the LP5 to your device wirelessly.

Also, for relief processing, the file sizes are large; transferring via Wi-Fi can be difficult and may lead to processing issues, so we recommend using USB mode.

LP5 Hardware Design
The LP5 follows the stylish design of previous LaserPecker products, maintaining beauty and simplicity while featuring a larger body.
Although it has a bit of weight, the LP5 remains portable and is highly notable for being equipped with both a 20W diode laser and a 20W fiber laser.

Accessory Kit
The accessory kit includes highly useful items such as the Slide Extension Kit for processing larger workpieces and the Rotary Axis Stand with tilting functionality. These make engraving hard-to-reach areas much easier.
A base plate for cutting tasks is also included. We recommend using it to prevent the LP5 base from getting marked or damaged.

Protective Cover, Fan, and Cooling
The LP5 is equipped with a safety-conscious protective cover and a powerful exhaust fan with a telescopic hose.
You can connect it to an external ventilation system or exhaust it out a window.
The fan effectively removes dust and debris generated during engraving and carving.

Because fiber lasers require strict cooling, the LP5's operating noise is relatively high.
While many companies adopt liquid cooling systems, LaserPecker has achieved a more stable and portable design by using a large heatsink cooled by a powerful fan.
There is some noise during operation, but this cooling method is highly effective for the laser, maintaining temperatures even during long engraving or relief projects.

LaserPecker Design Space (LDS)
LaserPecker provides dedicated software, "LaserPecker Design Space (LDS)," compatible with PC, Android, iOS, and macOS.
The PC version of the software is particularly practical and easy to use, offering superior operability and more features compared to some mobile apps. Since some features may not be available on the mobile app, using the PC version is recommended.

If you are using the LaserPecker LP5 for the first time, you need to connect it via USB and click "Connect."
After connecting, you can navigate to device settings to configure Wi-Fi, which will enable wireless operation.

LDS has all the features necessary for cutting, engraving, and relief processing. It features a simple layout where all settings are placed on the right side of the screen, ensuring a wide working space.

Processing Various Materials
Brass Coin Relief Processing
Settings were: 100% power, 30% depth, 26% frequency, 0.01mm layer height. The processing time for one coin was under 5 hours.
As a post-processing step for the relief, I performed a single cleaning cycle at 50% power and 4% depth. This removes some of the residue.

Brass Pendant Engraving
Using the fiber laser, settings were: 8K resolution, 26 frequency, 50% power, 35% depth.
Engraving took less than 5 minutes, resulting in a unique and eye-catching design.

Slate Engraving
Using the fiber laser with settings: 26 laser frequency, 40% power, 30% depth, 8K resolution.
The small slate took about 40 minutes, while the large slate took over 5 hours to complete.

Basswood Engraving
Used the diode laser with 50% power and 25% depth to engrave a logo onto a wooden keychain.
Engraving the logo at 1K resolution took about 4 minutes, resulting in a very clean and sharp finish.

LP5 Settings
Unlike many laser engravers on the market, the LP5 adopts a slightly different configuration method.
For the diode laser, the main settings are Power, Passes, and Depth.
Increasing the Depth slows down the processing speed, while decreasing it increases the speed.

For the fiber laser, you need to adjust settings such as Laser Frequency, Passes, Power, and Depth.
Depending on the material, you may also need to set the Duration. This determines the time (in milliseconds) the laser stays on each point.
Higher duration values typically result in slower engraving speeds.
