[3D Printing] Bambu Lab H2D Receives UL Greenguard Safety Certification
Bambu Lab recently announced on its website that its H2D 3D printers, which use some of Bambu Lab's materials, have received UL Greenguard safety certification, indicating that emissions are within safe limits.

Bambu Lab recently launched its highly anticipated H2D 3D printer and multi-functional authoring machine, generating considerable buzz.
More noteworthy is that H2D recently received UL Greenguard 3D printing safety certification.

Bambu Lab 's PLA Basic, PETG HF, and PLA/PETG material support have been certified by UL 2904 "Greenguard for 3D Printers".
This standard, developed by the third-party certification body UL Solutions, is used to measure whether ultrafine particles (UFP) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in non-industrial environments comply with current safety standards.

UL Greenguard Certification
Most of the chemicals we come into contact with daily come from the air we breathe in our homes, offices, schools, and other indoor environments.
These airborne chemicals are commonly referred to as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are used in the manufacture and maintenance of building materials, interior decorations, cleaning products, and personal care products.
A study conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and several researchers revealed two key findings:

1. VOCs are very common in indoor environments.
2. Indoor concentrations may be 2 to 1,000 times higher than outdoor concentrations.
There may be 50 to hundreds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) circulating in indoor air at any time.
Some VOCs may produce an unpleasant odor at low concentrations, but many VOCs have no noticeable odor.
Many VOCs are irritating and can cause headaches, eye, nose, and throat irritation, and dizziness.
Long-term exposure to certain VOCs may lead to chronic diseases, including cancer.

Products used in the construction and decoration of indoor environments have a significant impact on indoor air pollution levels.

The UL Greenguard certification is the industry's first certification based on stringent testing standards such as UL 2818. All certified products must undergo production process audits and routine testing to prove that they have minimal impact on the indoor environment.
UL Greenguard is a certification that comprehensively addresses indoor air quality issues, helping consumers make smarter and healthier choices.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Washington State initially adopted UL Greenguard certification emission limits as a procurement standard for household products.
Since 2002, the UL Greenguard certification standard has been the basis for low-emission home products to receive the Leading Energy and Environmental Design Award (LEED).
Office and home products that have obtained UL Greenguard certification also meet the BIFMA (Bureau of Commercial and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers) X7.1 standard.

H2D has obtained UL Greenguard certification.
Just like at the end of last year, Prusa Research conducted Prusament PLA and PETG certification tests for its product, the Prusa MK4S 3D printer .
Bambu Lab also obtained the certification through testing. This certification strongly demonstrates that the equipment and materials have undergone rigorous testing by an impartial organization to ensure they meet recognized health and safety standards.

More precisely, the test targeted a 30.6-cubic-meter office (12 x 10 x 9 feet) environment to measure its emissions.
The maximum allowable level for ultrafine particulate matter (UFP) is set at 20 billion particles per gram of raw material, or 300 billion particles per hour, while the content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) must be below the acceptable level of the "non-carcinogenic chronic reference exposure level" for each compound, which is based on thresholds set by agencies such as the California Department of Public Health.

The safety of emissions from 3D printers, whether in home or industrial environments, has long been a focus of concern for 3D printing enthusiasts.

It is gratifying to see more and more manufacturers choosing this type of certification, which means that relevant users and organizations can refer to clear and public guidelines when making decisions.
Moreover, the more manufacturers choose to get certified, the greater the pressure on other manufacturers to follow suit.

Therefore, if you are using Bambu Lab's H2D for 3D printing, feel free to breathe, but if you are using uncertified materials for printing or using other features of H2D, you may need to carefully check your ventilation.
