[3D Printing] Bambu Lab launches H2D medium-sized dual extrusion multi-functional 3D printer!


We learned last year that Bambu Labs was about to launch a larger 3D printer, and now the wait is finally over.
It features double extrusion and full enclosure, and also has a variety of functions beyond 3D printing.

The printer will be available soon, with the H2D pre-order price at $ 1,899 .
The H2D Combo also includes the brand-new AMS 2 Pro, which is sold bundled together for $2,199.
The H2D laser version is available for pre-order at $2,799 or $3,499, depending on the laser power you choose.
This includes all the new features that Bambu Labs designed for the machine.

This is an excellent printer with a wide range of functions, as you can see from the official first introductory video.
Specifically, H2D is ideal for professionals who want to upgrade their equipment or makers who need to work on various complex projects.

What is Bambu Lab H2D?
The H2D 3D printer itself incorporates a great deal of technology within its 492 x 514 x 625 mm footprint.

Bambu Lab has created a new type of servo motor for extruders in H2D.

It is called Dynasense. Unlike stepper motors, which move in fixed increments and, depending on the system in which they are implemented, cannot retransmit their position or missing position after a missed step.
Bambu Lab's new motor can indeed do this and allows printers to better control the flow of the filament.
Regarding this motor, the company stated that, combined with Bambu Lab's typical algorithmic intelligence, it enables more refined print extrusion quality.

Sensors and cameras are scattered throughout the printer, from dedicated nozzle cameras that monitor printing inconsistencies and errors to eddy current sensors that monitor hot end alignment during switching; many unseen events occur to keep H2D running smoothly.

Dual extrusion is a key feature; an H2D printhead has two parallel hot ends.
These hardened, high-flow hot ends can be heated to 350°C and can be supplied from individual spools or via a separate AMS device.
This allows you to print multiple colors or materials at the same time.

H2D's active chamber heating allows for better environmental control to maintain the consistency of warpable materials.
The H2D function can activate multiple openings on the printer to allow cold air to enter and exhaust filtered air.
This allows you to print PLA documents with the door closed.

Only 300-325 mm of the 350 mm print bed width can be printed, which is usually a drawback of twin-extrusion 3D printers.
Overall, you can use a build volume of 300-325 x 325 x 320 mm, equipped with a print bed that heats up to 120°C and a double-sided textured PEI board.
Bambu Lab set the H2D printing speed to 1,000 mm/s and the acceleration to 20,000 mm/s.
Technically, its top speed is twice that of the previous X1E, but in real-world use it is unlikely that this top speed will actually be kept on all the time.

To improve 3D printing accuracy, Bambu Lab also offers encoder boards (sold separately).
This sheet of paper, resembling a printing plate, is covered with tiny, machine-readable codes that can be detected by the printer's camera.
This paper, combined with advanced calibration procedures, can improve H2D's movement accuracy to less than 0.05 millimeters of deviation across the entire printing area with 95% confidence.


What else can it do?
In addition to being a dual-extrusion 3D printer, it also has a 2D cutting mode.
There is a blade attachment that can cut vinyl, paper, cards and similar sheet materials.

There are also two laser modules (10W and 40W) that can cut thicker materials to varying degrees.

Bambu Lab highlighted the security features of the H2D laser version, including numerous flame sensors, AI-based fire detection capabilities, hazardous light shields, and essential add-ons such as an emergency stop button and a personal safety key.

H2D's new non-3D printing capabilities are handled through a new software called Bambu Suite, which can use vector and raster file formats to perform contour cutting, engraving, and similar functions.
Like 3D printable files, 2D files (and projects that combine both) will be integrated into MakerWorld and become native elements of the library.
The laser-based H2D device is expected to begin shipping in April.

New AMS Options
Today, we are launching the AMS 2 Pro alongside H2D, a redesigned (but familiar-looking) AMS unit that integrates the much-desired cable drying feature.
Bambu Lab claims that it does much more than that, also featuring a smart ventilation system that expels humid air and seals the equipment to maintain the condition of the cables.
The AMS 2 Pro can heat up to 65 ºC to dry cables and can be controlled via software on a printer, mobile phone, or computer.

Bambu Lab now also offers single-axis AMS HT.
Sold separately, the AMS HT is compatible with the AMS 2 Pro using the same materials, but can be heated to 85 ºC and the spool can be rotated while drying.
Unlike the AMS 2 Pro, which transmits humidity information only through the printer and software, the AMS HT is equipped with a display screen, allowing you to read the current humidity and drying status at a glance.

Additionally, Bambu Lab points out that the AMS 2 Pro wire feeding function is already available and can be used on X-series and P-series machines, which means partial backward compatibility.
Full drying functionality will be implemented after a firmware update that is yet to be determined.
AMS HT will eventually be compatible with both the X-series and P-series machines. Both may require additional components such as power supplies.

H2D expands the number of AMS units that can be used simultaneously in the X and P series, compatible with four AMS or AMS 2 Pro plus eight AMS HT units.
This gives us a total of 24 spools of cable available for each job, but we haven’t seen how it looks and works in practice yet.
It will inevitably require additional hub-type hardware that Bambu Lab has not yet shown.

Like the X and P series, AMS Lite is incompatible with H2D because of the differences in how AMS Lite feeds and coordinates cable movement.
