This combination is highly compatible, as it not only centralizes information display but also enables diverse automation and integration functions.
This article will explain the overview of Bambu Lab printers and Home Assistant, the benefits of integration, and detailed setup instructions.


For those unfamiliar, Bambu Lab offers high-speed 3D printers that dominate the modern 3D printer market. Their lineup includes the high-end X1E, the fast and easy-to-set-up X1C, the compact and user-friendly A1 and A1 Mini, and the cost-effective P1S.
These printers have become incredibly popular in recent years and are staple machines for many makers and DIY enthusiasts.

Bambu Lab printers come standard with rich network features and are designed to integrate with the Bambu Cloud ecosystem. This makes them suitable for integration with IoT platforms like Home Assistant.

Home Assistant is a free, open-source IoT software that allows you to centrally manage smart home devices on your local network.
Unlike many cloud-based smart home systems, it typically runs locally on small computers like Raspberry Pi.
It can manage various devices, including cameras, speakers, lights, and, of course, 3D printers.

Why Integrate?
Connecting your Bambu Lab printer to Home Assistant allows you to easily monitor and control your printer from a central dashboard.
Once integrated, you can view various real-time information from your printer.
For example, you can check fan speed, component temperatures, current print status, AMS information, live camera feed, and much more.

You can do more than just view information. You can also perform various operations on your printer from Home Assistant.
It supports many operations, such as pausing, resuming, or stopping prints, toggling LED lights (on models that have them), and checking diagnostic information.


One of the most popular features of Home Assistant is Automation.
For example, you can change the color of room lights to notify you when filament is running low, or automatically start/stop printing based on smart humidity sensor readings. The possibilities are endless, limited only by your imagination!



What You Need

This method uses a standard MQTT connection on your local network to connect the printer to your Home Assistant hub.

However, this article will focus on Greg Hesp's "ha-bambulab" integration, which is versatile and widely supported.
This integration also allows you to connect via the Bambu Lab cloud ecosystem, which is easier to set up and provides easy access to a lot of data and printer functions.

To connect your Bambu Lab 3D printer to Home Assistant using ha-bambulab, you will need the following:

1. A Bambu Lab 3D printer (connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Home Assistant).
2. Home Assistant

Note that the setup method varies slightly depending on the printer model. For example, P1 series and A1 series require a local connection to utilize live camera feeds in Home Assistant (cloud connection can be used in conjunction if needed).
X1 series require enabling an additional setting (LAN Mode Live View) to use similar features.

Install HACS
First, you need to install Home Assistant Community Store (HACS).
You can find the HACS installation guide here.
In short, introducing HACS to Home Assistant makes it easy to access various custom integrations and features developed by the community.

Install ha-bambulab
Once HACS is set up, you can install the integration. The easiest way is to access this link from any device on the same network as Home Assistant.
This will automatically install the integration. If it doesn't work, you can install it manually.

1. Open HACS in Home Assistant, click the three-dot menu in the top right, and select "Custom repositories."
2. Enter "greghesp/ha-bambulab" in "Repository," select "Integration" for "Category," and add it.
3. After saving, an integration named "Bambu Lab" will appear at the top of the HACS main screen. Download and install it. (If it doesn't appear, search for "Bambu Lab" in the search box at the top.)
4. It's not mandatory, but it's recommended to restart Home Assistant at this point to ensure the printer is correctly detected in the next step.

Add Printer
1. From the Home Assistant settings screen, open "Devices & Services."
2. Click "Add Integration" and search for and add the newly installed "Bambu Lab" integration.
3. As mentioned, you can choose between cloud or local connection. Select your preferred connection method.
If necessary, enter your Bambu Lab account login information.
If you choose local connection (or use it in conjunction with cloud connection), you will need to enter the printer's IP address and access code.
The steps to find these are almost the same as setting up Bambu Studio's LAN-Only Mode.
 

While integrating your Bambu Lab printer into Home Assistant is convenient, it can't reach its full potential if you can't display information or control the printer.

Fortunately, you can easily create beautiful and functional custom dashboards to display various printer data.
Many users have already published their dashboard configurations, so you can refer to them or create your own original dashboard.
